Resembleflower · 03/03/2023 03:19

I’m looking for new shoes, I have arthritis in my feet and one foot has a non healing stress fracture. I have a pair of dr marten trainer type shoes but they are old and not offering any support. I can’t seem to find them any more. Ortho Dr recommend new balance and brooks. I can’t seem to find anything plain ish!

can nooner recommend any comfy trainers and or any shoe.

thanks

Have you tried with orthotic arch supports in your shoes? If they’re right for you they can make the world of difference.

A podiatrist would be able to tell you if they’re worth trying. You can buy food quality ones on eBay that you heat in the oven so they mould to the shape of your arch.

If they work for you it’d give you more choice in shoes.

I highly recommend FitFlop trainers. I have sore feet from arthritis and they really work for me. Very plain designs available. Hope you find something that suits.

I do have insoles from hospital and even though they are helpful I still have sore feet. I can’t wear them all day… yet hopefully I can build up and wear them full time. The stress fracture is helped by the insoles off loading but still in pain.

Hotter shoes. Very comfortable and last forever. I have very painful arthritic feet and I only buy Hotter now.

DarlingCoffee · 03/03/2023 05:42

Fit Flop trainers and boots are great. Also these for flip flops are very good and comfy archiesfootwear.co.uk

RosesAndHellebores · 03/03/2023 05:45

Try vionic. I have a shallower in sole than recommended that I can wear in boots/lace ups. I'll google and post again.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/03/2023 05:53

Vasyli are the orthotics I use. The slimline one is a good compromise for smart shoes. The full length deeper ones I have to size up.

Will def keep this insole brand in mind if I can’t tolerate longer periods in the orthotics I have.

Hi Resembleflower, I feel your pain here. I have rheumatoid arthritis and also suffer badly with my feet. I can thoroughly recommend joya shoes they are made specially for foot problems, these ones have literally changed my life! So comfortable, they have rocker soles so alleviate pressure on the forefoot. They are available online. If you have a medical shoe shop near to you it might be worth a visit as they can help you find the best pair for your feet. The shop I used was called Shoemed and I was pleasantly surprised that they had some quite trendy looking trainers in there. Good luck painful feet are the worst.

Shoes for sore feet!
Summerhillsquare · 03/03/2023 17:11

Strive. Their sandals are all I wear in the summer, quite stylish too.

WhereAreWeNow · 03/03/2023 17:18

There are a lot of Vionic trainers on the TK Maxx website at the moment @Resembleflower - all massively reduced.
I wear Brooks for running and find them incredibly comfortable. They do some plain styles/colours.
I also recommend Fitflop. I wear the Rally trainers and I have lots of pairs of sandals.

Viviennemary · 03/03/2023 17:19

I second hotter shoes. And pavers are quite good too.

Netcam · 04/03/2023 07:41

I have had all sorts of problems with my feet and have tried so many shoes. I wouldn't bother with orthotic insoles, in my experience they change the interior space in the shoe and cause more problems. The best thing you can do is invest in a decent pair of well made shoes that fit well and feel supportive and comfortable. Other people have mentioned some shoes with rocker soles and I agree.

Over the long term, the best for me have been these:

shoemed.co.uk/products/ikebukuroredeobukschwarz?variant=33296987783254&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2021-02-07&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0oagBhDHARIsAI-BbgcI74saw9XLaAMzuq6-hJcqHLfGkC7zBkISPUgfV-smiDJKHj5sF7waAgL0EALw_wcB

I have recommended them to 3 other people I know who have also had foot problems and they have all said they are the most comfortable shoes for walking that they have found. I have had mine for 6 years and they are still in great condition. You can buy replacement insoles for them. They are not particularly cool looking but are fairly neutral and almost trainer like.

The trainers I have had success with are Hoka ATR Challenger Womens GTX. They also have a rocker sole and are really well cushioned and supportive. I had one pair for several years and have recently replaced them with new ones.

If I was going to be out all day on hard surfaces, I would wear the above shoes. If I am going out walking on grass/tracks/hiking, I would wear the above trainers.

i am usually a size 5.5, but the Ikebukuro run big and mine are a 5. The Hoka ATR run small and mine are a 6. They both offer half sizes but the 5.5 in both were not right for me.

i also think the right socks add to comfort. My favourite are Smartwool hike light womens ankle socks. They have lots of cushioning without being too thick, I wear them year round.

I have had to put comfort and foot health before fashion when it comes to shoes. I realise I can't really wear any shoes I just love the look of, but try and compensate with clothes I really like.

RosesAndHellebores · 04/03/2023 11:25

@netcam I disagree. Many shoes come with a removable insole and the trick is to take your orthotic insoles to the shop and and try them in proposed shoes. Especially for special occasions. I can size up in boots and lace-ups. This complements the Vionics, in-built support in other shoes.

May I mention that it's helpful to ensure there is support in slippers in which we often spend hours on our feet. There is no point having super-supportive shoes if for hours at home you wear worn out, flat, flat slippers with no support. I wear Siebels Betsy Cloggs downstairs in winter and something open and with arch support in the summer.

Netcam · 04/03/2023 11:59

Fair enough, I appreciate some people have had success with orthotics. I've just never found they felt quite right. The only thing they work with are my Ugg boots, but I wouldn't walk long distances in them, but they have been great for standing in cold playgrounds when my kids were little. However, I realise they must work well for some people, so perhaps what I should have said was that they didn't work for me and I ended up wasting money both on the orthotics and the shoes I got them for. I guess everyone is different I this respect. I have a couple of pairs of more girly shoes that are comfortable enough for being more dressy as long as I don't have to walk too far in them.

I totally agree with you about house shoes though. I have Fitflop Mukluk shorty boots as winter houseboots and Wolky Rio sandals as summer house shoes. I have another pair of Wolky Rios for outdoor wear in summer and have found these to be best sandals for me. However, I wouldn't wear either the Fitflop boots or Wolky sandals for long walks outdoors, I just don't find them supportive enough.

waltzingparrot · 04/03/2023 18:52

I'd go for something from the Skechers ArchFit range - really comfy, supportive and well cushioned.

Resembleflower · 07/03/2023 08:17

Sorry for disappearing! Been visited by bloody sick bug. I thank god avoided it.

Thanks for all the links! Lots of brands I haven’t heard of. Definitely need to go shopping. The ones I ordered where no good. Think I need to go in store to try on. Im having new insoles tomorrow. So will see how that goes. Sorry can’t @ people phone is doing odd things.

florriegirl it’s an awful pain isn’t it. Will have a look. They do look good which is important.

Summerhillsquare saved the link for the summer.

WhereAreWeNow if only I was a 3.5! Will keep looking at TKmaxx online.

Viviennemary pavers have some plainish ones for work.

Netcam I’m at the point now where I need to put comfort first.

RosesAndHellebores def agree re slippers. I realised a few years ago how important slippers are. I have a pair in my car as I cannot work bare feet so I take them when I’m visiting people!

waltzingparrot I wanted to love sketchers but they don’t suit me. Shame as they are so comfortable at first for me
