Laser on facial hair

Anyone had it? I spend way too much time waxing, plucking etc. I’ve done IPL on my legs and arms and it worked brilliantly but would want to get facial hair done professionally. My concern is that you shave the hair first - do you end up with stubble in between sessions?
Please share if you’ve had it!

I've used my Philips Lumea on mine and it went completely after just one 'round' as per the app. Amazing. I would've paid for the PL just for this one thing - but also now have hairless legs, armpits and bikini line. The legs and upper lip have been permanent since the initial treatment I think because my hairs were quite fine but dark. The courser under arm and bikini hairs I have to re do.

Hi @franglais123 are you able to bleach your facial hair instead of doing laser?

Chooba · 02/03/2023 22:03

I have and it's one of the best things I've done for feeling good. I'm super dark haired and was so conscious of the prickly bastards coming out. And now...they're not! I used the dermaplane razors to shave, but I didn't find it stubbly in a man way, not to touch and if it got visible I just did it again.

Chooba · 02/03/2023 22:04

Oh and I went lip and chin - wasn't just to get the prickles!

franglais123 · 02/03/2023 22:05

@Summer2424 not a fan of a bleached tâche - I think they’re really noticeable.

@seratoninmoonbeams oh lucky you! Whilst it worked well on my legs and arms it hasn’t worked on my armpits at all, annoyingly. My concern with facial hair is that you are meant to shave it off beforehand which I really am nervous about doing because of the stubble. Currently I wax and pluck. Did you shave first @seratoninmoonbeams ?

NC for this as I'm a regular poster. Like you I've been fighting a facial hair programme for ages.

Last month I plucked up the courage to go for laser and had my first session. I dermaplaned my top lip in the run up to the appointment and 24 hours before the appointment.

It didn't hurt at all and it was all over very quickly. After having it done done hairs came to the surface, this is normal, but after just a week the re/growth is very slow and I've dermaplaned once a week.

I can't believe how much less hair there is after just one session and I so wished I'd done it years ago.

I booked a course of 6 4-6 weeks apart. My next session is next week.

Go for it Op.

@Chooba did you keep shaving between treatments or do you have to let it ‘grow out’ then shave just before? There’s no way I could let mine grow out - I wouldn’t be able to leave the house!

@Lazery interesting you say you dermaplaned as well - I’ve never tried it. I have a full on tâche and then random chin hairs. I’m scared of a blade going near the upper lip in case I get stubble. Do you not get it with dermaplaning?

@franglais123 mine has always bothered me since I got teased at primary school but I guess really the hair was pretty fine but dark so it wasn't stubbly after no. When I zapped it it kind of blasted it/burnt it and then it just grew back as it normally would but as it was fine it wouldn't be stubbly anyway. I can only go off mine I suppose. If you get it done professionally by laser it will all be exactly the same process anyway so I don't see the difference in that regard. 🤔

Lazery · 02/03/2023 22:10

@franglais123 you shave or use a dermaplane razor as you can't wax or pluck.

Admittedly it's not nice dermaplaning your top lip initially but once you have your first session you won't be doing it so often. I can see bald patches there already.

Using a dermaplane razor feels more precise and in the run up to my first appointment I did it daily. I have really dark coarse hairs but was willing to go through the pain barrier so to speak for the long term gain.

It's an area I've always been really self conscious about so was ready to do whatever it takes to get rid of it.

You don't have to let it grow at all - I didn't do it regularly as I didn't need to, but if I felt the need then did. Because there's less hair it isn't as noticeable regrowth anyway.

Mary46 · 03/03/2023 16:00

Im hoping to do it. Got bikini line laser money well spent. My lip is dark hair so its noticeable.

SugarSyrup · 05/03/2023 12:34

Following with interest as I'm considering this too. But like you nervous of shaving in between. I want my whole neck done. I have PCOS so know it'll grow back but hoping it'll be less.
