Right you wise mumsnetters worldwide! I am absolutely terrible and useless at doing my hair or my daughters hair in anyway, it is literally down or tied up. I reeeeeeeally love my hair curly, but this can only happen every few months when I go to the hairdressers, so I’m trying to find something online I can use, so basically I need a hair curler for dummy’s!!

I’ve found a really cool cordless one which is a good price and looks amazing, and you just put your separated hair in it and it does all the work for you, but I have long hair and reviews say the charge runs out too quickly and they have to be charged half way through (who has time for that, seriously??😂) But I can’t seem to find anything else like it that is cordless. Anyone else as crap as me and has found something that works well for them?? Any advice would be great, thank you 😁

i have had so many hair items over the years, but the best and lasting results are with my dyson airwrap, look up Mollie Clampsie UTube (pardon spelling) she gives a good routine, and then get the right hair clips and products for your hair type.

It’s not cordless but the babyliss curl secret is great for novices.
I use a curling wand and with a bit of practice you will be a pro.

curlformers are a fun option and heatfree

MrsS0werberry · 01/03/2023 18:29

Tresemme heated rollers. I use them all the time and wear my hair in waves most days.

My hair does not curl.

Except with the baby liss curl secret. The only thing that has ever worked.

So it seems your hairdresser curls your hair for you when you have your hair done, yes? Pay your hairdresser a bit extra for their extra time and get them to teach you how to curl your hair. This is exactly what I did with my hairdresser although at the time she was mobile. She did a couple of curls, told me the temperature for my hair and how long to leave the hair wrapped on the curling wand so as not to damage it., how much hair to wind on etc. She then handed the curling wand to me and I did the next few. She showed me each side and talked me through it. And use heat protection spray.

Far easier to do it on someone else's head than your own but easy with practise.

Thank you so much ladies!! @JillenTavau yes you’re right, she always curls my hair but with straighteners and does it so effortlessly. I have watched her do it and tried to do the same at home, but it just doesn’t come out even close to being right!! A few of you have mentioned the babyliss curl secret so will have a look at those along with some wands and the rolls, but ideally don’t want something I need to leave in my hair overnight :)

I've got one of those cordless ones from amazon. I've got long thick hair and it's amazing. I do find it runs out of battery nearing the end of my hair but I just plug it in and finish. I love it and it only for about £40.

SummaLuvin · 02/03/2023 09:24

Is there a reason you really like cordless? Most hair tools I have used have pretty long cords so it's not an issue and is actually a preferences, cordless will always have two big negatives for me - first is the charge running out, second is the additional weight from batteries.

I used to have a babyliss wand for years before it broke and I replaced with a GHD wand and I think I preferred my old one! This shows the method I use - hold over the head in the opposite hand to the side of the head you are curling. I do plenty of sections. For a more beachy look alternate the curl direction each time, for a more glamorous look curl each side all away from the face. I typically leave the bottom inch or two of hair out as well to make it look a little less 'done'.

JillenTavau · 02/03/2023 09:34

@Sippingonginandjuice77 I can't use straighteners to curl my hair either. I always worry about anything that sucks your hair into a device. You have to make sure you have it the right way up for each side of your head etc and maybe I have seen too many hair fail videos.

Ask your hairdresser to teach you with a curling wand. Mostly now I just curl the bottom section of my hair (bra strap length) but I used to do my whole head which is why I needed help from the hairdresser to learn how to do the back of my head.

Danikm151 · 02/03/2023 11:43

I curl with straighteners to. The trick is to angle away from your head then pull through at that angle. It takes practice though!
