I am going to a forces thing next month.

Dress code is smart.
suit or below knee skirt.

The event will mean I am outside for 3 or so hours.
I am currently very overweight and struggling with what to wear.

I really need some helpful ideas on what I could wear so that I don't look like a total mess.

Any Suggestions on where to start?

Whatever you wear make it warm. It will get very cold standing or sitting around in this weather. A long coat that you can sit on will be best with a scarf and maybe long boots. I have been to officers and other ranks passing out parades and the clothing varies widely. I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about it. John Lewis are used to dressing people for events like this so you could try their personal shopper if that’s in your budget?
