Searching for a full length mens waterproof coat with really chunky zip

This is a bit of a long shot, but trying to help my dad find a new coat. He wants something waterproof, full length & warm suitable for shopping / bus stops etc in winter.

It needs a really good chunky zip, as he has very limited eyesight, & also arthritis in his hands, so small / lighter zips are difficult for him, especially on a longer length coat. Ideally not a dual zip (ie one that also undoes bottom up) as they're harder again, but they seem pretty universal on long coats.

Unhelpfully we're not near much in the way of clothes shops, & so far he's tried a couple online (one from Rohan, can't remember where the other was from) & ended up sending both back. The Rohan one had a really shoddy zip, I struggled to do it up myself with regular vision/hands. Lands End would be a usual go to but he's not found anything that suits there.

Any top tips on coat brands aimed at the older gent (he's just turned 89, so I don't think would be offended by that description Grin) with good quality fittings?

Uniqlo has great coats , try there.

Good thought, I'll see what they've got

I'd always recommend Lands End for long, warm, waterproof coats and I find them to be good quality.
On the zip pull though, if you go onto ebay and search for para cord zip pulls, you can add a chunky pull in whatever colour very easily. I have limited dexterity (no function in one hand) and added these to my tricky coats. Another thing I do with long coats with more difficult double zips is to not undo the coat totally and just step in and out which is a game changer. You can also pop a safety pin towards the bottom of the zip to stop it unzipping totally

Thanks @CMOTDibbler - good thoughts there. The problem with the zip is getting it lined up & in, rather than pulling up, & I think it's as much due to eyesight as lack of dexterity, but I suspect an added pull would definitely help as well.

I'll suggest the stepping in and out approach, that might be an answer rather than trying to find the perfect zip. I think that would work for dad at home, but he'd maybe be reluctant when out and about (he goes to all sorts of clubs & social things, so would be taking his coat off there).

I think the failure with Lands end is probably to do with size availability as it's near the end of the winter, one option we've talked about is making do for the moment & then looking again in autumn when the new ranges come in. But Uniqlo is also a good thought as a pp mentioned, things I've had from them have had good zips in the past. The other thing I'd wondered about was an old school long mac with buttons rather than a zip, but you don't see so many of them these days.

If buttons would be easier (even as a quick button while leaving his club, then taking the time to do the zip properly when he's not thinking about being seen, I've done that before), then a coat with a good overlap like this Regatta would be very easy to add buttons to. Any alterations person could do it cheaply

Actually, scratch the buttons, I remembered about [https://www.activehands.com/product/magzips/ Magzips]] which I have been meaning to get. They neatly click themselves together so you don't have to fiddle

The magzips look perfect! Thank you so much :)

It's a small thing, but so frustrating for dad, he's out and about all the time and things that can make coats etc easier just make life so much simpler.
