Help with The Ordinary

Used Dermalogics but now beyond my budget. What products work for 50+ skin. I like a cleansing balm/rich cream cleanser and a rich moisturiser as well as serum. Any recommended products?

For a rich night moisturiser I'd recommend Nivea night cream, cheap as chips. I've also been using the inkey list polyglutamaic acid (or something like that.

Not the Ordinary, but I HIGHLY recommend GOW (Garden of Wisdom) by Victoria Health - that rands us excellent value for money. I particularly like their Vitamin C in Ferulic Acid, but they’re all great products for the price.

The Inkey List is another good one for quality budget skincare.

For rich moisturiser, Weleda Skin Food is totally brilliant. I use Skin Food Light, as the original is very rich and heavy.

For cleanser, Superdrug Vitamin E and Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleansers are really, really good and always on offer too - I don’t think I’d ever use another now.

I’ve tried the Ordinary, but never really been blown away, but their hyaluronic acid is nice.

The Ordinary only offers one cleanser and one moisturiser, so it should be an easy decision?

JorisBonson · 02/03/2023 09:50

I use the 10% niacinamide serum every morning, and the 5% lactic acid peel serum every night. Both highly recommended.

I don't think the Ordinary are great for cleansers or moisturisers - they are much better in terms of ingredient rich serums. I have a few of their serums, but wouldn't use the whole range.
What type of serum/ ingredients are you looking for? Most of them do a specific thing (i.e.hyaluronic acid serum is good for moisturising, vitamin c serum is great for brightening skin, niacinamide is good for blemishes or large pores)

In terms of cheaper brands, as a previous poster said Garden of Wisdom are good, as are Geek and Gorgeous - both of which are bought online instead of in shops (as far as I'm aware).
It's probably best to pick and choose individual products from different ranges as not everything from the one brand will suit you.

Also bear in mind that the cheaper brands may not have the luxurious feel of the cleansers/ moisturisers that more expensive brands like Dermalogica have. But if you pick the right ingredients and formula for your skin type then they should work just as good.

Thanks so much for all your recommendations - with the exception of plenanna 😉. I will look at Garden of Wisdom and I really like the sound of the Weleda skin food xx

I use Inkey Niacinamide, The Ordinary eye serum and Multi Peptide serum and Beauty Pie moisturiser and retinol.

I also take vitamin gummies for hair, skin and nails. The Beauty Pie ones are delish! I think these make more of a difference than all of the above.

Do you like the Eve Lom cleanser? If so, the Vitaskin Vitamin C cleanser is a good, cheaper option.
