Giving up on jeans and trousers.

I hate them. I'm tall and hippy and they just fall down all the time (or cut me in half). I've tried loads of brands and styles. Also, the minute I think I've cracked it, I'll randomly change shape or size and they no longer fit. Skirts don't give me these issues.

I've found some secondhand skirts and dresses on eBay and I'm going to add those to my wardrobe and put away my jeans and trousers. It's a bold move (or maybe not, but I enjoy the drama of saying it is 🧐).

I also think dresses and skirts are just more comfortable.

I just felt I had to share this epiphany for some reason 😂 in case anyone else has a similar problem with trousers

Good for you!
It’s something I’ve always fancied doing, I’d love to just wear dresses and skirts, but I feel the cold so need the leg coverage of jeans/trousers. I’m also tall so S&D can sometimes be a gappy length on me. I look wrong and feel uncomfortable in everything tbh 😂

I definitely may immediately back pedal when I realise how cold it is without jeans...

Yes, that's true re skirt lengths. They can sometimes be off on me. The hips make them even shorter as well so mini skirts just are impossible. They're more like a belt on me 😬😂

What about dungarees/jumpsuits?! I went through a phase of hating jeans - the way they looked/felt - and tried on some dungarees. I wish I had done it sooner!

MyLittlePonyWellies · 28/02/2023 21:07

I do actually have some dungarees which I like... 🤔

I think the issue is the waistband really combined with gusset on my weird shape (very long bottom half - waist to ankle)

I was actually warmer when I did a few years wearing only dresses and skirts.
I eventually went back to trousers because of my outdoor lifestyle, but I have to admit that wearing good weight fabrics and wool tights kept me warmer with my long coat on that jeans or trousers.

most of us don’t wear 100% wool trousers so the tights (in cashmere or merino) were super warm in comparison. they also dried quicker than jeans .

what I found most difficult over those few years was winter colours and patterns - dresses and skirts are far more trend driven than trousers, so I was depressed with lurid florals and bloody animal print (hello Hush!).

It was always comfortable and I felt free-er in some ways, as if they gave me a more fluid range of motion. I would go back to it if the fabrics weren’t almost exclusively polyester and viscose. And I do think it is hard to find sturdier fabrics for dresses which can see them wear out and get damaged quicker.

That's a good tip re the wool tights. Can you wash them on a wool cycle in the machine please?

Agree re fabrics. I've been buying in eBay where you can filter by material.

Most jeans and trousers aren’t very warm. If I want to be warm in jeans I wear tights underneath, which can be uncomfortable. Generally thick tights, a longish skirt, warm boots and a longer warm coat work better for me in cold weather. I normally only wear jeans when it’s relatively mild, neither very hot nor very cold.

MyLittlePonyWellies · 01/03/2023 08:46

That's interesting. I'd always thought of jeans as my winter uniform, but I do end up with merino thermals underneath.

I've ordered some merino tights, so hopefully they'll keep me cosy.
