Foundation for hyperpigmentation

BorrowersUnderTheStairs · 28/02/2023 11:32

Hi,
I have quite severe hyperpigmentation on my face. Both red and brown patches. I also have middle aged dry skin and fine lines. I am embarrassed to go to a beauty counter because my skin seems almost unfixable. I have tried Estée Lauder camouflage foundation. It looked awful on my skin - chalky, dry and sat in all of my fine lines. Can anybody suggest something because it’s really getting me down?
Any advice much appreciated.

I’m be never found any foundation to work with my brown marks. They always caked or made the marks look a strange colour.

I used dermatica for about 4 months and they’re mostly gone now though.

I have the same troubles as you, OP. I love this, nice light coverage where skin is better, but you can build it up on the worse bits. Never looks cakey!

Thank you for the links, I will give both of those a try.

I would visit a make up counter and they can recommend something for it. Maybe a peach toned stick or lilac. I'm not sure which but they will know. I use Benefit Erase paste (no longer available) but it's a pinky peach shade and works well against my pale ivory complexion. Also I find the Bare Minerals complexion rescue foundation stick quite good.

I find it impossible to cover,I also tried the Estée Lauder camouflage which was strange!

I also use Dermatica and it’s almost completely disappeared.

This one, but get colour matched on the US site Ulta as they are pretty good. It is very hard to cover but I think the secret is to blend it with slightly darker tone rather than a paler concealer type of shade. Iyswim.

I use this stick in the shade vanila. So once again I'm going slightly peachy. It's very moisturising and feels nourishing.

I've just found this on Google.

"Yes. A full-coverage peach-colored concealer can hide melasma spots effectively. What color concealer hides pigmentation? Peach or pink color concealers are highly effective in hiding hyperpigmented spots for light to medium skin tone"

@BabsDylan what dermatica do you use?

@BabsDylan what dermatica do you use?

I’m on tretinoin and hydroquinone. It’s the only thing that’s shifted it (tried many different lightening creams and anti dark spot creams etc).

I’ve just bought HUDA stick foundation and this has done a great job

Dermatica
Is
Working
For
Me
Too
I am
Six
Weeks
In

Can't
Wear foundation anymore as it's quite drying at the moment, and don't really need to but I think I need to persevere a bit longer. I am on tret + something else but had the azelaic acid taken out after the first consultation because of the dryness.

I'm sorry, I have no idea about that formatting!

Thank you for all of the recommendations of products. It has been making me feel so low lately, so you have all given me some hope that I might find something to work for me.

Might be worth using a primer first. As your skin is dry, it's just going to soak up and absorb the foundation, and possibly make your foundation look patchy where your skin is extra dry.

I like Revolution vitamin superbase, it's similar to Bobbi Brown face base but without the scent and a fraction of the cost.

I also use Dermatica but eventually went for laser for the stubborn marks that wouldn't budge. For me, it was well worth the money. Evened out my skin, took away a lot of redness and helped it behave better overall.

I have recently had my hyper pigmentation mark layered x 2 sessions and the mark is a lot less visible . One more and it will probably be gone. But remember to use factor 50 every day throughout the year to keep it gone

Can I jump on this thread and ask where anyone got the laser treatment? I’m in London. Looked at Dermatica but it says the treatment uses unlicensed ingredients- can anyone advise? My brown marks are getting worse and wondered if HRT was actually causing this. Would be interested in anyone else’s experience. Thanks

Happygirl79 · 14/03/2023 15:05

I had mine done by a nurse who practises nearby. I'm in North East England so don't think that's any good to you

Happygirl79 · 14/03/2023 15:07

Microneedling helps shift hyper pigmentation too so you might want to try that?
