To spend on a cotton dress?

😬

It's uo to you. You know how much disposal income you are willing to spend.

If it seems reasonable to you go for it

RachelGreensHair · 27/02/2023 22:17

As PP said depends on your income, anywhere between £30 to £300.

Todaynotalways · 27/02/2023 22:19

I'd baulk at over £100, I see lots at £120-160 and wait for them to go in the sale.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/02/2023 22:21

Personally I would struggle to justify more than £50 for a cotton dress unless it was really exceptional in some way

But I'm not you!

SirVixofVixHall · 27/02/2023 22:21

How much is this dress OP…….

How much is this dress OP…….

It’s £120 😳

I tried it on on a whim earlier and really liked it…

I feel like that’s ridiculous money to spend on cotton though!!

The loveliest cotton dress I’ve ever encountered cost ten times that amount, @macaroonsandgin. I still regret not buying it about seven years ago …

NatashaDancing · 27/02/2023 22:40

What is the dress?

What is the dress?

It’s from Anthropologie - I took a pic in the changing room earlier… maybe not to everyone’s taste but I really liked it on!

Do show us a link! :)

Bunce1 · 27/02/2023 22:47

I bought a cotton free people dress for £90 last summer and it is the more flattering and complimented dress I own.

buy it!

HeadsShouldersKneesAndMyGreatAuntsWalkingStick · 27/02/2023 22:47

Hmm. I personally wouldn't pay over £100 for that dress but each to their own

Bunce1 · 27/02/2023 22:51

Can you wait for a sale? Anthropologie usually has good ones!

Good shout - does anyone know how often they have sales? Thanks all x

It’s much more ridiculous to spend that on anything else! Other than silk. People pay that for polyester.

Get it!!!! The only reason not to is if you:

Haven’t paid your bills.

Wouldn’t have money left for food.

You don’t absolutely love it.

SocksAndTheCity · 27/02/2023 23:11

I spent £375 on a Merlette Paradis dress in black cotton lawn the summer before last.

I cracked when the temperature got past thirty degrees and I'm glad I did, because the quality and fabric is exceptional and I've had loads of wear out of it (even if I do look like a walking lampshade 😀).

NatashaDancing · 27/02/2023 23:13

This is a selection of sites selling cotton dresses which have featured on here. (And which I've saved to drool over) They start at around £200 minimum - Erdem, Samantha Sung and Casey Casey are hitting, and exceeding, 4 figures. The most I have spent on a cotton dress is £720 and several at around £300-£500. My everyday cotton dresses are from Palava which are £140 - £165.

The dresses in the links below are, imho, exceptional.

It's difficult to tell for yours as it's not a style I would pick.

Although if you can afford I'd go for it. Good quality cotton feels lovely.

Wow, some amazing links there!! Thank you for sharing.

While lots of those are definitely not my style in terms of things I’d actually get wear out of, they’re very beautiful!!

OP posts:
NatashaDancing · 27/02/2023 23:24

You obviously love your dress, and honestly good quality cotton is NOT a cheap fabric. I don't think £120 is excessive.

I like the hemline on yours- it's quirky and unusual.

NatashaDancing · 27/02/2023 23:26

I like that dress the more I look at it- it's the hemline that makes it.

thefamous5 · 27/02/2023 23:33

I couldn't spend more than about £30 on a dress (my wedding dress was only £40) but that's because I'm skint.

However, if you've got the disposable income and you love it, £120 doesn't sound too bad at all. Especially that dress - it's beautiful and looks like the sort of thing that would never go out of style and could be dressed up and down.

It really looks lovely on you.

I'm also jealous because I can't even contemplate £2 on a white vest top because I would spill something down mw within minutes 🙈🙈

AdventFridgeOfShame · 27/02/2023 23:37

Lovely dress.
I love a bubble hem, but white 😲wouldn't work for me. Guess you are less mucky.

"bubble hem" - thanks. I couldn't remember what the name was !
