When I was a child my mum had a quilted down dressing gown. It was a gift from a Canadian friend, and my mum practically lived in it. Dm is from a hot country and she felt the cold dreadfully, even when she was relatively young.

I seem to be taking after dm in this respect, but I don't have a down dressing gown. I find myself wearing my little packable down jacket at home most evenings, and snuggling under a heap of blankets on the sofa. And a cat, but he's fickle.

I want a down dressing gown, like my dm. I thought I might buy a lightweight down coat, but they are all fine nylon and I have a cat who likes to lie on me and paddle me with his claws. I'm pretty sure mum's dressing gown was made of high thread count cotton or polycotton. It certainly survived our childhood cat.

Surely such things must still exist, and be obtainable in the UK?

Something like this? It's not down, though.

Not a dressing gown but this is incredibly warm and I have barely taken it off when WFH

It's ugly as fuck but frankly I'm so toasty I don't care. Also don't leave it lying around, it's a cat magnet Grin

Depends on budget but Desmond & Dempsey make lovely quilted/padded dressing gowns. Some are reduced on Net-a-Porter, but still pricey:

Or Toast repurpose Indian kanthas into dressing gowns - but they are also pricey:

An oodie is what you need (like the JL above). Mine saved me from switching on my heating. I live in mine at home day at night. The hood makes me feel so cosy at night.

I’ve had one of those kantha gowns for the best part of 20 years — still going strong, warm and wearing beautifully. Well worth the initial outlay.

If you are in London and want a kantha gown, get yourself down to Portobello Market - a few shops and stalls selling them at decent prices.

Gosh, some of those links are stunning. But none are quite right.

What is special about a kantha gown? Apart from being pretty, of course!

They’re old sari fabric stitched together with a running stitch into wadded fabric used for bedspreads etc. like this.
