Ok, I am sick of my 'look'.
Said look consists of shrunken long-sleeved, but too short in the body, cotton tops in various plain colours, old jeans or needlecord trousers, baggy shapeless cardigans and assorted boots of various heights but no heels. Very occasionally a shortish skirt and boots but am a cold person and like to be comfortable. I have two snotty pre-schoolers. Am SAHM at the moment.

I don't do loud prints on the top half.
I don't do high heels, no never.
I don't do shirts with collars.
I like dark muted rich colours (rich browns, purples, olive green, burnt orange etc), enlivened by the odd bit of lilac, lime green or red.
I never wear white, it makes my skin look dirty.
I like chunky ethnic-y jewellery or silver, no gold.
I am about 5 foot 8, slim/skinny, size 12, small of nork.
My collar length, brown hair hates the dry climate I live in and will not do as it is told, ever.
I don't live in the UK so need general tips rather than specific shops. (Tho links or names will provide ideas)
Any suggestions please?

This winter I have been mostly wearing white or other colour polo neck jumper under summer smock tops. I have been warm as toast and tip top stylish.

In summer I wear cropped jeans and long T shirt or smock top.

Last summer I discovered white trousers and wore loads with blue / green T shirts (not as child unfriendly as you would think, just don't give them choc or Tom sauce that day).

I like La Redoute catalogue. Do they deliver to spain (must do surely).

I cheat and buy whole outfits as worn by model so no tricky putting things together.

Also buy a light grey cardi / hoody to wear with summer tops?tees. Goes with everything.

Haven't read the whole thread but here are my tips:

  • borrow Trinny & Susannah's first book for good tips on flattering styles for bits of body you don't like - or their latest book for whole body shapes IYSWIM
  • have a ruthless clear out and get rid of anything you don't feel good in. Analyse why you DO feel good in the things you've kept and try to buy similar things. I'm a great believer in not needing LOTS of clothes, just a few good clothes. Capsule wardrobe yadayada.. Think of French women and their pared-down chic wardrobes. Also saves time if you know that you LIKE everything when you open the cupboard
  • accessorise everything! an interesting necklace will detract from wearing a plain-ish top
  • get some bras that fit. I just got refitted (am breastfeeding but had shrunk somewhat since early days) and my god I feel so much better

hifi - Massimo Dutti is nice but still a bit expensive for me and I need clothes that I don't mind ruining! Will go and have a look at their sale tho...
scattyspice - thanks for your tips. Summer is easier in a way as I just wear linen or cotton cropped trousers and tops and a necklace or whatever
naturelover - thanks, will check out charity shops for the books next time I'm in the UK. I find it really hard throwing clothes out. I can't forget the money I spent on them, especially if they weren't worn much, and there are no charity shops to hand the stuff that's still in decent condition on to.
I hate wearing bras but fortunately am flat-chested enough to get away with not wearing one a lot of the time.
And why oh why do I want to change my image and buy new clothes now when I am virtually bankrupt?!
Things will improve soon but we've had a couple of hard years financially and it's not over yet...
