Wavy hair help

Hello, wondering if anyone has any tips/advice/products recommendations/Instagrammers to follow etc for dealing with wavy hair specifically.

I have attempted curly girl a couple of times in the past, but have never got to a place where my hair looks any good. I have really, really thick hair (the kind that hairdressers always comment on) and it feels like I can’t get away without shampoo. Even with no sulphate shampoo I am left with weird clumps and sticky patches, no matter how much I rinse.

I did buy a dyson airwrap, hoping it would answer my prayers and give me manageable hair quickly and easily, but it takes forever to use as my hair is so thick and takes ages to get dry. Also my 8 month DD loses her s* if I dare use it in the same room as her!

Also, anyone who has got their wavy hair sorted - how do you wear it? Just down? Dd is a real hair grabber, so maybe I need to just stick with a messy bun for a bit longer and deal with this in the future!

I have wavy hair and I do curly girl-ish! I use shampoo, or my hair doesn’t feel clean, and I use a detangling conditioner. Only comb through while that’s in. Use a serum and gel for curly hair and use an old T-shirt instead of a towel on my hair. Looks best when air dried but this time of year I diffuse it. However, baby is a hair-grabber, so my hair is in a ponytail 85% of the time!

I have crazy thick and wavy hair too.
I gave up on curly girl after I realised my hair only looked nice for half a day before if became a notty mess and ended up in a bun until the next wash.
Now I'm back to using my normal products and heat styling, but I never brush my hair unless wet with conditioner in.
And I use a micro fibre hair wrap for drying.
And now I wash and dry and style and i can get a good 7/8 days out of it.

Your hair is like mine. Its super thick and has a mind of its own. Sounds like your not rinsing it properly after washing.
My routine is apply conditoner for 20 mins leave with microfibre towel on. Then wash in sls free shampoo put towel back on for several hours. Blow dry when 90% dry and put velcro rollers in until hair is cool.
It takes 4 hours and i wash it every 4-5 days. I also only use hairdressors with my hair type as ive had countless pyramid cuts.

Thanks all, some useful things to try!

@Crazykefir - I’m definitely not rinsing it properly, it’s always the same patch where shampoo is left but I just don’t seem to be able to get it right. It only happens with sls free shampoo and I focus on rinsing that particular area and have also brought one of those plastic scalp scrubber tools but just always end up with a sticky patch there. Then when I wash again, it’s like the sls free shampoo isn’t strong enough to get rid of the sticky residue. Or I suppose I miss the same patch again and it’s just gets stickier. I like the sound of your Velcro roller routine though, might attempt something similar.

With the sticky patch, are you sure your conditioner and styling products are CG approved? SLS free shampoo can't remove silicone properly so you get build up. Manufacturers are sneaky, my hair started going dry and knotty and I discovered that the formulation of my shampoo and conditioner had been changed and they are no longer CG approved
