Eco friendly deodorant that works and smells good (or neutral)

Hey

I’m looking to reduce my environmental impact in everyday ways, and am keen to find an environmentally friendly deodorant.

Does anyone have one they’ve liked - or can tell me about others that they’ve tried (and maybe not liked)?

I do really like Wild - they smell lovely and work really well. But they’re ruddy expensive.

thanks

I love Awake Organics, I use Moon Goo.

Nuud is great too. My 16 year old uses it and very honestly does not smell at all such is quite incredible for a 16 year old boy. My 14 year old is rather less reliable at using deodorant and pongs so it isn't just maternal bias saying he doesn't smell!

I prefer using something with a bit of bicarb to help with dampness hence not just using nuud myself though I do tend to use a smidgin a could of times a week.

The only one I ever found that actually works (and I've tried lots) was Lush (can't remember the name, it was a yellow solid one and had a lemongrass fragrance)
I'd love to find one that really works for me, (and others frankly) but so far only that one came close.

I like AKT. It's a sort of armpit paste — wait! come back! — that comes in metal tubes. I've been impressed with it; I'm a personal trainer, so a good deodorant is pretty necessary in my day-to-day.

Like Wild, it is quite expensive though.

Dillydallydilly · 20/02/2023 11:54

@BeetleyCarapace i laughed at your ‘wait! Come back!’

Thats really interesting that you’re a PT and use it - good recommendation as I imagine you need something strong.

I’ll confess I can get a bit whiffy if I don’t use deodorant or use one that isn’t up to par. Especially since pregnancy.

I got a horrible skin reaction to Wild, and to some others I tried - I think it's the bicarb.

Pitrok crystal works for me. It's in a hard plastic tube but the one I've got has lasted more than a year so far. I don't smell, but it doesn't reduce sweating so there is still dampness!

Dillydallydilly · 20/02/2023 11:55

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea how long does it last? Because £13 is not cheap!

@BeetleyCarapace does it last 2-3 months like it says it does?

I use the natural deodorant company.

Again it's expensive but it lasts a good 3 months (if not, more!)

It comes in a glass jar and it's like a paste.

My BO was horrendous after giving birth and none of the usual deodorants worked for me.

Even 24 hours after applying it, I'm odour free. So long as I don't shower of course.

I like Wild. Works through a 5k run a d didn't let me down through the summer.

Meh. Yeah maybe two. But then I sometimes take three showers a day and use deodorant after each so I do get through it. The instructions say a pea-sized amount per arm and if you do that, and only put it on once a day, you'd probably get nine or ten weeks out of a tube at least.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 20/02/2023 12:04

Lasts about 3 months I think.

It isn't cheap but then I don't think you can expect to pick up a natural product that works for £1 from savers. Which course makes it a luxury and there opens a whole big can of worms debate about the affordability of looking after our planet.

BeetleyCarapace · 20/02/2023 12:05

For me, personally, any whiffy tends to be on fabric, not me. So it's about laundry, which is a whole other thread. (TL;DR for sports/technical clothing the answer is always Halo)

This in spades.

@Dillydallydilly
Are you washing your armpits with a proper bar of soap (Dove is not soap), rather than shower gel?
Shower gel leaves a residue behind that stops both deodorant and antiperspirant working.

goodsea · 20/02/2023 13:13

My favourite is the Malin & Goetz eucalyptus one

This stuff is brilliant. It works in the subtropics, no dampness and no BO.

hernameis · 20/02/2023 13:35

I really like Fussy deoderant, I first heard of them on Dragon's Den about a year or so ago.
It's mail order and once you've bought the case to house the deoderant it's a fiver for each refill. Each one lasts me about 7 weeks.

It doesn't stop dampness but there is no smell and very environmentally friendly. It uses probiotics rather than baking soda. I've tried lots of deoderants and this was a clear winner for me. It doesn't leave any gunk or white marks on clothes either.
