Is there a make-up exchange website

I have a small hoard of new and unused - also some tested, make up products. Most are high-end brands that I have bought randomly and never used and some are gotta-have-it buys that were not suitable when I got them home. I would like to exchange them with others as I am a beauty brandaholic ……. I am sure I saw something a couple of years ago about a site that was specifically for exchanging make-up products, but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone know of such a thing please ?

Isn't that an invitation for cold sores?

Celeryfavour · 19/02/2023 17:34

I used to use Makeup Alley years ago, don't know if it still exists.

Sounds rather unhygienic, can't imagine there'd be much demand

I can’t see how that would possibly work. Once things have been opened and have air contact they really shouldn’t be in use indefinitely.

Foundation, primer, blush and eyeshadow may last up to 2 years. Lipstick should last for one year after it is opened. Eye makeup such as mascara and eyeliner would need to be replaced every three months.

I think there's a subreddit for it, I know there's the general makeupexchange one but that's more US focused. If you Google Reddit makeupexchange UK it should show up if it exists.

Alternatively, Vinted does allow exchanges between members, but I suspect it might be more trouble than it's worth to set up an exchange that way.

There’s has been in the past and a few fb pages let you do this. But it causes all sorts of issues. And people running the page forewarn they don’t get involved.

People saying they haven’t used their stuff when they have. People saying they have been ripped off and received used products. Sometimes they have sometimes they haven’t.

New unwanted products = no cold sores.

There are Facebook group you could try.

If new and unused / unopened you could sell on eBay, Vinted, depop etc. Or donate to a charity (I give my unwanted products to a women’s shelter).

Used products should be binned I’m afraid.

I think Vinted or EBay is the way to go for the unopened stuff.

I'll be honest, I'd happily buy a used lipstick on eBay as I know I could scrape off the top layer and alcohol wipe it before use. Ditto any powder type cosmetic. But I think even I would baulk at using a second hand lipgloss.

I swap used stuff around among my close friends but only stuff I've swiped once or twice on the back of my hand and decided against or that were freebies with something else. I always alcohol wipe the applicator to within an inch of its life before I do so though.

MakeUp Alley went a long time ago I'm afraid. Which was a shame, as it was an excellent resource for honest reviews!

I’ve sold new and barely used make up on Vinted
