Fine hair help

I’ve always had fine hair but recently it just feels so fine and limp.

I’ve tried so many different shampoos and even ones that used to be great for my hair still have no effect.

please can anybody recommend a good shampoo & conditioner that will give my hair some life and not make it greasy.

Have you tried a silicon-free and sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner? I’ve switched and it’s helped. Tried a few brands and they all seem similar

I have annoyingly fine, greasy hair. Once it's been slept on it's so lank and limp looking. I seriously envy women with long, thick locks with loads of natural volume.
I don't think there's much to be done sadly. I do find that changing my shampoo and conditioner often helps. It's like my hair gets immune to it after a while and goes even flatter. L'Oréal shampoo in the orange bottle works for me.

I started using SLS and paraben free shampoo. It took a couple of months but people started commenting on my hair looking lovely and thick. Oh and taking ferrous fumerate to try and boost my permanently low ish-iron.

I have fine hair and this works. I use the shampoo and mask.

I have fine hair which needs washed more than I would like. I've recently switched to Neutrogena T Gel shampoo for greasy scalps and I can definitely see the difference. For volume Davines Liquid Spell has been a game changer.

I've tried just about everything and nothing has really worked until I used R&Co Cactus Texturising Shampoo. I was just about to recommend it, but I'm distraught to see it's been discontinued! Apparently the replacement is their Labryinth 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner and styler, which I'll be trying when I run out of Cactus.

Their products are expensive but lovely quality and a little goes a long way.

The other thing you could try is some thickening powder on dry hair. Sounds weird but does really work and is pretty cheap - I use this one: www.boots.com/vo5-instant-volume-root-boost-powder-for-fine-flat-hair-7g-10131815

It sounds like we have similar hair. I've finally found that washing my hair like they do in the hairdresser really makes a difference, so always washing my hair twice, only applying shampoo on the scalp not the lengths, taking the time to rub the shampoo into the scalp, then using conditioner just on the ends. This has been an absolute game changer, my hair used to be flat by the end of the day but even a second day is always fine now, and my hair is never greasy. With the double washing I've noticed the second wash actually feels different, like the first wash gets the grease and product out then the second wash actually cleans it.

The other thing I noticed made a difference was using less shampoo. I used to use quite a lot but probably use about the size of a 10p now.

I use any sulphate free shampoo, but couple of products I love are this scalp scrub that i use a couple of times a month, mainly because i love the smell, but it does also make my hair feel great. www.cultbeauty.co.uk/naturelab-tokyo-perfect-shine-clarifying-scalp-scrub/13312364.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi8KfBhCuARIsADp-A56iiso2bkBB04C-K808gM48G90GglQbOoJE5WA36OeiyTVTlSKhQjIaAi8HEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

The other one is this nioxin mousse which is really light but gives good volume Nioxin 3D Styling Bodifying Foam 200 ml amzn.eu/d/4XNn2kq

The final thing I think makes a difference is how you dry your hair, rough drying it to almost completely dry while directing the heat and using a paddle brush in the opposite way to the way you want it to lie then finishing it with a round brush makes a huge difference compared to just drying it with the hairdryer pointing down towards the hair. Sorry if its not clear what i mean, there are YouTube tutorials on how to do a fine hair blow dry that I found really helped.

Oh I've thought of another thing, I always used to ask for layers at the hairdresser because I thought it would magically give me swooshy hair. But I've realised, with the help of a great hairdresser, that blunt cuts with some movement through them but not loads of layers really really make my hair look thicker and healthier.

I've honestly always hated my hair because of how fine and lank it is but these things over the last year or so have helped enormously

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 19/02/2023 09:46

Also have fine, fairly thin hair that gets lank very quickly.
I use moogoo shampoo and conditioner as it's gentle and doesn't irritate. Then the thing that has made the most difference is using a volumising mousse - currently using Percy and Reed, have also used Eleven Australia. It really makes a difference to lift/body, even on day 2.
Also - seconding the above about blunt cuts with a bit of movement in them!

Agree with the kerastase. It's life changing hair stuff!
