Wardrobe staples for a well put together look tall plus size mid 50’s?

I am tall, 50’s, plus sized (20-24 depending on brand) with a big tummy.

I used to be a bright/spring many years ago when I had my colours done and suited nice bright colours near my face bright coral/red, greens, bright cornflower blue/bright purple etc. But I was a brunette then and but I have gone platinum/silvery grey during lockdown. So feel like I have lost my way.

Please help with some interchangeable suggestions for capsule items that might work for me. I am menopausal so rarely need a coat or jumper and for the same reason prefer natural cool to wear fabrics and more of a casual dresser than overly smart.

I have a denim shacket and a green safari type jacket, some jeans from LTS and some navy and some black apartment pants (stretchy wide legged trousers) from Saint and Sofia but I would like some recommendations for versatile forgiving tops, shoes and a bag for spring.

I saw this bag and shoes from Fairfax and Favour this morning on Insta which I love (what do people think) but they are way out of my price range.

Thanks

Anyone??

I love the ease of a capsule wardrobe but they mainly consist of white, grey, black and navy and I know I don’t particularly suit any of these colours near my face apart from maybe navy. As I end up looking and feeling very drab, boring, ill and washed out.

Thanks

Seasalt do some taller items and go up to size 26-28 in a lot of things, a lot of their clothes are quite forgiving and natural fibres. They have some quite nice trousers and a lot come in the longer length

The bag and shoes are nice, I looked on their website and it is very pricy, I liked the driving shoes on there.

Bumping for you OP.

Would you consider having your colours done again? I've gone blonde ( to cover grey) in the last 5 years and have been able to wear some colours which I wouldn't have worn as a very dark brunette.

Just from observing people my opinion is that a lot of the time women with grey hair can look a bit washed out in greys, taupes and neutrals and that bright colours are set off wonderfully with platinum hair. Maybe warmer tones to go with those brown accessories like deep greens, mustards, burnt oranges?

Watching with interest as I feel similar to OP.

Do you wear scarves - e.g. brighter / patterned scarves which can go with a plainer top ? Can be a good way to lift and change a basic capsule outfit.

I believe you can get a less expensive update of your colours if you’ve previously had them done without having to pay for the complete session again. If it’s HOC I can really recommend their style day, if anything that was even more helpful than the colour day at getting the look you want, sounds like just what you may be looking for help with.
I remember at the time the consultant said that your season never really changes but your best colours within it can as your hair & skin tone change

Thank you for all the replies so far.

I buy clothes or tops each season but always struggle with what to wear. Especially for a celebration or fancy meal out which is a nightmare finding dresses. But even for a low key casual drink or meal or going into town.

I had my colours done over 35 years ago from someone who was just setting up with Colour Me Beautiful @Darklane so I am unsure if that is a possibility for me.

@LadyOfTheCanyon yes sometimes I look and feel more ghostly than I used to so although my skin is ok I tend to wear more lip colour and cheek colour these days. So maybe some new make up is in order too.

Yes, I think I still look good and suit coral colours all shades, bright orange/red, a lot of bright greens, turquoise, bright cornflower blue and purples but I now look dreadful with all yellow, some mustardy lime green shades.

@BookWorm45 I have a lot of scarves in a draw still especially coral and green but fell out with them when I hit menopause as felt they made me too warm and they felt too fussy but now I am on the HRT patches I maybe need to give them another chance.

Yes, I have a few tops from Seasalt @User18936572 also Fatface, Monsoon and occasionally Lily and me and Long Tall Sally (but the latter tend to do more polyester and cheaper more unnatural materials these days).

But I often struggle with what bag to use and what footwear especially if I am wearing black trousers (maybe because its not really one of my colours and I don’t like or suit shoes that are high, too flat or stiff or formal). I also have plantar fasciitis and a problem with my heels). So then struggle to confidently put an outfit together. That minimises my tummy and weight and makes me feel good or I’d settle for ok, is comfortable, practical and not overly warm.

Thanks again
