Any tips for buying on Vinted? Complete novice…

I am trying to be a more “considered” buyer and buy less but stuff I really like. Usually buy quite a bit in charity shops but not much luck recently.

I have been looking on Vinted. It takes hours to find anything but have found a few possible contenders. Any tips? E.g. if something seems good for the price, but has been listed for a while, does it usually mean the person has forgotten about it?

It doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve forgotten about it. If something has been listed for a while it’s worth making an offer. If they accept then you buy it, if they don’t, nothing lost and you can just pay full price. I’ve had some great stuff from Vinted and I sell a fair bit too.

I’ve bought quite a few things on there, I much prefer it to eBay. Everything has been perfectly nice, clean, no delivery issues.
today I had delivered a sweaty Betty sweatshirt and a Hush sweatshirt (from the same seller), paid £10 for them, they are immaculate.

I'd filter by brands you like and I tend to sort by "newest first" to see what's just been added. You can save searches and I have a few saved for my favourite brands in sizes for me and DD.

If something has been listed for a long time I make an offer for a slightly lower price.

AnnaMagnani · 17/02/2023 21:23

I pick brands I know I like and I know what size I am. It cuts down on the pages and pages of size 14 tops.

My experience is that if something has been on for ages, you are more likely to get away with a cheeky offer as they are now desperate for it to be gone.

Vinted is great Iv sold over 80 things in the last year. Always look for good ratings for sellers. If possible use Inpost for purchases/selling it's the most efficient and reliable way Iv found. Always make an offer! Iv had stuff on for months and if people offer il accept to get rid of it, if it's a decent price.

Notcontent · 17/02/2023 23:21

Thank you! I will try making some offers and see what happens…

Does anyone else not find it really user-unfriendly as a seller? I listed something on there months ago but can't find a way to get back to my listing. I've had two expressions of interest and would love to sell them the item but I can't work out how...

latetothefisting · 18/02/2023 00:03

No I find it really easy to use.
To find your listings go on "profile" (bottom left) and then "view my profile" (top) and scroll down.

Orangesare · 18/02/2023 01:13

I’ve sold more than I’ve bought. Buy from a buying perspective I’d only buy from someone who had a lot of feedback. Recent purchase was a disaster and not worth returning

Are you using the app? You click "profile" then "view my profile" and all your items are listed.

By "expressions of interest" do you mean the item has been favourited? People will click "buy now" if they want to buy it.

Never buy from sellers with weird user names who have new reviews eg Xwasd53789 selling a Gucci bag and nothing else and no reviews.

a lot of luxury brand stuff is fake.

look for bundles from same seller to save postage especially with children’s clothes.

I never buy immediately but always ask for a lower price first. It’s accepted half of the time.

i buy 90% of my kids clothes there now and love it.

If something is listed for £2.50 that is in the condition you’d like, clearly photographed with an equally clear description please don’t send an offer for £2.. I list loads of my kids barely worn stuff at really low prices to make a little money back from buying them new at 10 - 15. Ive stopped responding to offers like that and just decline. I get negotiating for high end stuff but a kids barely worn hollister jeans for £2 .. ?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/02/2023 09:31

If you really want something and its a good price just buy it or you may miss out. I listed a NWT dress for £15 and it sold for full price within a hour, I still had multiple offers of £10. I personally don't look at offers until something has been listed a few days as its a waste of time.

Same, I'm selling a load of things for the £2-3 mark at the moment, it gets my back up (maybe unnecessarily?) and I usually ignore the offer.

VanCleefArpels · 18/02/2023 12:21

I always filter for BNWT or BNWOT and for brands that I know my size in. I also won’t pay more than £10 so filter by price. I favourite things and come back the next day to avoid dangerous over shopping late at night 😜

faustina · 18/02/2023 13:17

I've bought twice from there recently - both items were exactly as described and a very reasonable price (and the sellers were very friendly). I find it slightly harder to navigate than ebay - seems more cluttered up with other stuff somehow - 'wardrobe highlights'. I keep meaning to get around to selling but haven't yet. I have noticed if I like something (click on the heart icon) someone often sends me an offer for it

Just list it for a tiny bit higher then. Sorry I always put an offer in first and also list my stuff a bit higher to take offers into account.

People who haggle for 25p-£1 are the worst
