Afternoon all

As title says really, where do you start? I'm needing some help with a n ongoing face skin issue and realistically need to pay up for private.

Also - what do consultation £ cover? Do any prescriptions cost same as NHS?

Any help for the clueless very appreciated

Prescriptions can and will cost more. Average cost for the prescription to be issued (by a private GP for example) is £15-20+; and then the cost of the medicine is whatever the actual cost of the medicine is (if you see what I mean), and costs for dermatology medications have risen hugely over the last 10 years or so. Expect an initial consultation (in the South East) to be anywhere between £250 and £350. Research is going to be your friend. Do you know what your skin issue is? Do you know what the usual forms of treatment are? Have they worked? Not worked? Look at some of the bigger private health care companies and see if you can work out what the cost might be - Nuffield Health etc. Posting on here is a good idea, as there will be someone who has actual experience of the process. Good luck!

I just went to a private derm- £170 for consult- I found them via Ramsay healthcare referral. I have no insurance, this was self-pay.

Letter sent to GP listing prescriptions, GP prescribed. I do an annual prepayment certificate as I have 7 regular medications a month I take. So it was £0 extra for the derm prescriptions.

If you want treatment for a skin disorder, just head for your local private hospital and pick a dermatologist who takes self referrals.

Will be in the region of £200-300 (depending who you pick and where you are in the country) + prescriptions. These will cost more than on the NHS as you pay for the drug (varies from pennies to ££££) plus the private prescribing and dispensing fee.

If you want a cosmetic dermatologist then that's entirely different.

Fwiw, mine was for a skin disorder, not cosmetic.
