I love Kat Farmer but her body is nothing like mine so I can't use her for clothes tips. Helen Thorn has gone all amazing and got fit & slinky.

I'm 5'4", mid-fifties. 2 stone overweight probably so chubby but hourglass/curvy, fat tummy. Good boobs and still have sort of a waist. I'm embracing my menopause body and want to dress to suit it instead of covering it all up and feeling baggy & frumpy.

I live in hoodies, jeans & trainers but would like some shape and confidence and be able to dress up a little.

Any suggestions who I can follow on social media who looks like me?

instagram.com/inpolife sounds like what you're looking for

Coming on to say this.
I don't mind fabfatandfortyplus either although I tend to skip through the tedious sludge about home interiors and kids at rugby on both accounts.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/02/2023 01:31

I can’t see anyone stylish

@Theos
No need to be quite so cunty.

notanicepersonapparently · 19/02/2023 08:02

Have you looked at Anna Cascarina on Instagram? She might be your cup of tea.

Emily Innes at Style Me Happy (on Insta and FB)

Yes I came on to say her. I think she's great.

I think Emily is the absolute antithesis of how I want to look. I'm allergic to dayglo colours & jazzy earrings. Also I find that Facebook site very weird. I'm sure she's a very good stylist & lovely in real life, but totally not my cup of tea.

ohfook · 19/02/2023 13:55

@Cantonet it's so interesting that you say that and I think that highlights exactly why clothes/style is such a personal thing.

I've followed a number of fashion insta accounts this past year (in a bid to try and sort myself out) and she's the one that appealed to me specifically because of their bright colours. I felt that she at least made it fun.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 19/02/2023 17:02

Dressedtothemax is another one I follow. She's in her 50s and not a skinny minnie.

Woodendonkey · 19/02/2023 17:05

My god why would anyone want to look like Helen Thorn. Her clothes sense is awful!

YellowDaffodillie · 19/02/2023 18:07

TheThirdKit · 17/02/2023 17:28

Slim pickings. I can't believe there aren't more people out there who look like me but manage to style themselves well and look great. I must be a niche market.

Maybe because many women in their fifties don't spend time posting on social media platforms like Instagram?

My adult DC post all sorts of hobby related stuff but I don't know anyone my age who bothers to post anything other than pictures of their families?

We grew up reading magazines for style ideas so it's not an obvious source for many of us plus by our age, we're usually feeling quite confident in our clothing choices and less interested in the opinions of others?

Take a wander around your nearest city for a few days. There are plenty of stylish older women around. Maybe you just don't notice them?

fiorentina · 19/02/2023 18:48

Anna Cascarina on instagram has a great sense of style. Worth a look.

Ooo love her. Just started following. Thanks xxx

TheThirdKit · 19/02/2023 23:19

Thank you. Some good links here, I will lurk and learn.

@YellowDaffodillie I don't live near a city. I think that's part of my problem, there is a dearth of individuality and a huge tweedy dubarry tribe. There's certainly not the sort of diversity and interest I can get from Instagram. I just need a few nudges in the right direction.

@Woodendonkey I agree about Helen Thorn, definitely not what I'm looking for.

Thank you @FannythePinkFlamingo ! That's just what I'm looking for!

I’ve looked at ‘dressedtothemax’ and whilst I liked some of her clothes and love her confident style, the range of colours she wears seems to diverse for me.

I have a friend who buys clothes constantly and wears a complete rainbow of colours but then she struggles to co-ordinate outfits and goes and buys something new because she can’t pull an outfit together. Although, I think she just loves shopping.

I love colour but stick to clothes that are within a particular palette so that everything suits me and co-ordinates easily, including scarves, hats and bags. (Blues, pinks, turquoise, purple, white, grey, black. etc.)

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/02/2023 11:24

How about Rants and Big Pants on Instagram? Nina does posts with Clubfortyclaire where they wear the same outfit in their respective sizes.

Clubfortyclaire is worth a follow, she's tall and slim but often has posts showing other people.

Emily Innes wears brights herself because that's what she likes, she doesn't put all of her clients in brights.

Wearsmymoney is great too, a bit boho but very practical.

Cantonet · 20/02/2023 11:36

Clubfortyclaire is one of my favourite Instagram accounts to follow. Her style is very different to mine but I love her styling tips & the Sunday chats. Plus she's intelligent & never patronising. Wearsmymoney is also well worth following & seems really likeable. Yes I know emilyinnes doesn't put everyone into bright colours. But the title of this thread is recommend stylists that look like me. Well she doesn't look like me ..... at all. I'm perfectly prepared to think she may appeal to other individuals. I'm sure lots won't like my ideas of tasteful monochrome dressing & camel coats 😂

pinkyvase · 20/02/2023 11:39

I also love Erica Davies - she doesn't wear jeans so I get more 'interesting' outfit ideas from her

TheThirdKit · 20/02/2023 11:44

I don't think I'll get everything I need from one stylist, dressedtothemax has my body shape so I can see what shapes and how to wear things that I might not have considered without actually going all out with colour quite like she does. I need to embrace my belly and not hide it, she looks really fantastic in the denim jumpsuit that she recently posted, I need to find the confidence to show my rolls 😀

There's shopyourwardrobe too, a bit like clubforty.claire in that she's tall and slim so not exactly what you are looking for but she has some great tips and ideas for styling what you already have

iloveblue · 22/02/2023 15:55

Very specific style (which I love) and in Australia but I always find Deborah Gates inspiring https://instagram.com/deborahgates_?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

CharlotteOwlFace · 22/02/2023 16:21

RedleopardUK for colours/style

Dollypond for the odd outfit is good too - not purely fashion though

TheStarofCountyDown · 24/02/2023 09:53

Thanks JesusMary for the Shopyourwardrobe suggestion.

She's right up my street.

Love that she just tells you where her stuff is from, rather than linking in her reel/bio (I still can't figure out how that
works)

lurkingfromhome · 24/02/2023 14:57

I really love buttonsandblazers on Insta. Her style is simple and relatable but really cool and polished. Lots of ideas on how to style one basic piece. I basically want to look exactly like her every day.

LadyEloise1 · 24/02/2023 16:17

@lurkingfromhome I agree re Buttonsandblazers but she appears tall and thin so everything will look good on her.
Anyone with similar style but a different body shape. Smaller and wider Smile that they would be relatable. I don't like garish or zany.
