Botox wears off early

I’ve had four lots of Botox and each time except the last one has needed a top up two weeks later to get a complete result which I know is the best way to do it so it can be titrated to need.

However it wears off really quickly on me. I start to see it fade after a month and pretty much completely gone after two months.

I love the result when it’s done although last time was perhaps a tiny bit too frozen but she put more in to see if we could get it to last longer but nope, six weeks later it’s about 80% worn off so I imagine it will be all gone again by two months.

I have forehead, middle lines and eyes done.

Anything I can do to help it last longer?
the first time the therapist did repeat it fairly soon after about 10 weeks but since then has advised I don’t get it fully repeated any sooner than four months afterwards. Which I do understand the reasoning behind.

But that leaves me two months with it and two months without and that’s rubbish plus makes it really obvious to people I think.

Any ideas?

I am a big exerciser (run gym bike walk lift weights you name it) which might make a difference? But I’m careful not to do this for 24 hours after treatment.

I found it lasted a shorter and shorter time each treatment and after 2 years it didn't work at all on me.

Apparently some people are very resistant to it

Oh no! I love the effect so I’ll be gutted if this is the case for me

Yep. Lots of people say the same. 2-3 months max.

Remmy123 · 13/02/2023 07:54

Same - when I bet for my top up even the guy looked surprised!!

if he put more in I would have looked frozen and my eye would have drooped he said so I can't have more

Askingforafriendly · 13/02/2023 09:22

My friends who have it seem to get a good 4-5 months out of it.

Has anyone else been told there is a limit to how often you can have it?

I'm not sure if Tanya Beardsley from RHoCheshire had the same issue. But she said she had had too much Botox, it was making her eyebrows drop I believe? That's why she had a forehead lift.

I stopped having Botox several years ago due to finances and then never restarted. Last year, I started with Tret and the Ordinary Argireline solution and have seen a real improvement in my frown line between my eyebrows. Could you try that in addition to the Botox to soften your lines between top ups? Also, do you wear sunglasses to stop you squinting when doing sports outside?

Mine always lasts for at least 7 months. I'm 53 years old.

I have Allergan. This is the only "real" Botox that exists. Many clinics use different products to this though, so check what you're actually getting. I did have an alternative one time, and like you, it didn't last.

My last treatment was 6 months ago, so is beginning to wear off. I've just ordered high dosage Bovine collagen from Boots. I'm hoping this might actually be a good alternative to Botox, because the downside for Botox for me, is that it makes the skin around my eyes look a bit puffy because I can't move my eyebrows higher.

I've started a thread on this, and will keep my results posted.

journeyofinsanity · 13/02/2023 23:36

2-7 months is the norm. It's a huge variance

chelle0 · 13/02/2023 23:51

Slightly different, I have mine for migraines. I've had it every 3 months for 5 years (apart from pregnancy) and the top part of my forehead doesn't move at all now. I've only just started having it in the lower half and it starts to wear off around week 8/9. I think exercise makes it wear off quicker.

claredavidson · 22/02/2023 17:08

I am 68 and have been having it Botox for 10 years - it typically lasts 5 months or so. Vigorous exercising is a no-no if you want to maintain the look you get right after after having it done though so ..... you have a decision to make: either a toned fit body or a wrinkle-free face.

Nousernamesleftatall · 22/02/2023 17:26

My doctor says if you take zinc supplements it lasts longer. Must ask her why.

journeyofinsanity · 22/02/2023 17:35

Yes vigorous exercise tends to make it wear off faster. But it's important to exercise more than have a wrinkle free face

Is there research on this?

urrrgh46 · 22/02/2023 17:42

@Shitfather i think it's due to metabolism. Exercising hard speeds up metabolism - all metabolism inc that of the botox.

urrrgh46 · 22/02/2023 17:43

i exercise a lot and get about 3 months from my botox.

claredavidson · 22/02/2023 17:44

Masses!!!

journeyofinsanity · 22/02/2023 17:44

Not sure but anecdotally I've heard practitioners say their observations suggest so. Also if you Google it, lots and lots of clinics say in their experience it does.

cocopops11 · 22/02/2023 18:33

I've had this problem aswell. I seem to metabolise it after only about 8 weeks and then it's like I never had it. I've given it up because it just doesnt work on me anymore

Polecat03 · 22/02/2023 21:13

Yep my injector said if you have a fast/high metabolism then your body just gets rid of it quicker - I get three months, maximum. Rubbish, really not affordable for me at that rate. I don't exercise heavily either, can only imagine it would last two minutes if I did.

Shitfather · 22/02/2023 21:22

Makes sense. Thank you.
