If someone described your skin as looking like 'glass', what does that mean?

I have seen that phrase a couple of times recently to describe someone's face and it is meant positively. But what does that mean - is it shiny (because to me, shiny skin equals grease 🤷‍♀️)?

I have been plagued with adult acne for most of my adult life so my main skin goal has always been to just not have any spots! However, I seem to have cracked that with Skin & Me (6 weeks in and only had 1 new spot which is unheard of). So my skin is now clear - just waiting for the last of my acne scara to fade) so wondering if my skin goal should be to look glowy or something. What is it I am aiming for?

I think it means completely smoooooooooooth and flawless.

Onnabugeisha · 12/02/2023 21:16

It means can’t see any pores…so smooth, flawless, even tone.

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 12/02/2023 21:35

Completely flawless

Ponderoveryonder · 12/02/2023 21:37

It’s the type of skin fashionable in South Korea. Totally flawless!

MiddleParking · 12/02/2023 21:41

It usually means a metric ton of highlighter. I wouldn’t recommend it for sensitive/acne-prone skin.

Claymorekick · 12/02/2023 22:13

Thank you, makes sense. Don't think I am ever going to reach glass-like skin 😕

I agree it’s usually achieved through dermaplaning (fancy word for shaving your face like you’re a man on a mission) and reflective cosmetics with a high mica content.

Meh. Cute freckles are what is fashionable now anyway.

LynneBenfield · 12/02/2023 22:21

It’s pretty unrealistic anyway @Claymorekick. Normal, healthy skin has different textures and variations in skin tones. The true K-beauty ‘glass skin’ trend is extremely difficult to attain in RL, only the very lucky few who very young with all the fresh, bouncy collagen and no textural or tone inconsistencies. In reality these people are like unicorns and so most social media you see showcasing ‘glass skin’ will be using filters and make up techniques.

Claymorekick · 12/02/2023 22:23

I honestly don't think I have ever seen anyone with skin like that. Going to also assume that it is only young people that can achieve it?

Cross post 🙂 wrinkles don't really shout glass-like do they?

I will remain happy with my zit free skin as that in itself is a novelty- anything else is a bonus.

Lisa Eldridge has done a tutorial on how to achieve the glass skin look:

mackthepony · 12/02/2023 22:27

Great skin

SomeAlienConcept · 13/02/2023 05:08

It's definitely shiny too not just flawless. I don't like glass skin look, it's too cutesy and ceramic doll like.

doadeer · 13/02/2023 07:12

It's flawless skin. I think shine used to be seen as something to cover up but now everyone wants dewy glowing products. That type of skin is seen as youthful.

wibblewobbleball · 13/02/2023 10:14

I saw a (presumably) Korean woman on the tube once with true glass skin. I couldn't stop looking at her, it was like beautifully smooth doll perfect skin with a sheen - not a dot of make up on her face at all!

CurlsLDN · 13/02/2023 10:23

It’s a specific make up trend originating from South Korea, it’s achieved through skincare and using specific make up products to achieve a flawless base with a lot of highlight/glow.

it can look nice on photos/video but I think if you wore it out in real life you’d soon look greasy or sweaty. I don’t think it’s something to aim for with your natural healthy skin - that’s like saying you’re aiming to achieve smoky eyes!

I have also been a long term sufferer of acne and skin + me has helped me a lot too! I think aiming for non-irritates that is well moisturised and balanced is a good goal.

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 10:29

as others have said it's an idealised trend from South Korea for taut, poreless and flawless, skin with an extreme glow. It's near on impossible to for most people to achieve so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just another unrealistic beauty standard.
