Swollen and sore cuticles after Shellac

I had gel nail varnish yesterday and the lady scraped my cuticles back quite roughly (without soaking) then cut and drilled by the sides and base of nail and then cut with tiny scissors.
It felt a bit ouchy but looked ok. Today it's swollen and red on a few nails. What can I put on them ? Sudocrem? That's my usual
And should I have asked for them to be soaked first ? Or is it my fault for having such horrible leathery cuticles ?!!

That sounds like a brutal manicure!

Maybe visit your local pharmacy and ask what they'd recommend.

I didn't think my cuticles were so awful. I push them back myself and clip about once a fortnight. Never ever had them drilled before though. It was a teeny tiny drill but stil!

Oww. Have had the same from an over enthusiastic manicurist and ended up on antibiotics. If they are still sore and red tomorrow, try some antibiotic eye cream. A doctor chum recommended it to me when I was scratched by her cat, it’s made for eyes but v good for surface skin wounds.
You need one that contains CHLORAMPHENICOL.

I had that done to me when I last had a manicure. What should have been a relaxing treat was not. Mine bled. Apparently they would be better next time. Next time?! The drill thing also marked my nails and I could see the line as the nails grew out. Soaking is much gentler.

Glad it's not just me though horrified too. Are cuticles really that bad that we need to be butchered ? I have eye cream so will put some on so they hopefully won't get infected.

Shellacs a dry manicure, the manufacturers recommend it or the nail will bend as it drys out and you get lifting.

No need to be rough though.

I have my cuticles 'E-filed' with the drill it makes a fab job and I find it really relaxing. Have you had Shellac before? Is it 'Hemma free' I have to have Hemma free products after making myself allergic to it (it's on all the cheaper gel polishes) by doing my own nails since lockdown.

I didn't have shellac, just regular polish so no need for effectively filing my cuticles away.
