Hand cream emergency!

My hands are in a real state with this cold weather. My knuckles are all cracked and bleeding, I look like I’ve been fighting! Can anyone recommend a good hand cream? I’ve tried a few different ones (Hand Food, Champneys, Working Hands Etc) and E45 but that seems to make it worse.

I get chapped hands and the only thing that helps is nappy cream. I've used Bepanthen but this is better www.aveeno.co.uk/baby/products/daily-barrier-cream

QuestionableMouse · 10/02/2023 20:53

Also keep them as dry as you can - so gloves for washing up, avoid hand washing as much as practical without being unhygienic, that sort of thing.

Spudlet · 10/02/2023 20:56

I do a lot of hand washing for work and my hands really suffer badly if I’m not careful. My go-to is Body Shop hemp hand cream every night, and aveeno during the day when I get the chance (not often). That keeps them pretty happy.

PAFMO · 10/02/2023 20:58

Neutrogena Norwegian formula concentrated. It's more of a gel than a cream and is amazing.

Owlcat42 · 10/02/2023 20:59

I have the same. Totally recommend CeraVe reparative hand cream, which is way better than anything else I’ve tried

gingerbubs · 10/02/2023 21:00

Sorry, another different suggestion, but I love the blue aveeno hand cream. Gentle but super effective. I get really awful dry hands at times and this stuff is brilliant.

Weleda Skin Food

greenacrylicpaint · 10/02/2023 21:07

weleda skin food
nivea blue pot
palmer's cocoa butter

Burgerqueenbee · 10/02/2023 21:07

I use epaderm cream at night (quite greasy), during the day I use flexitol while it is very bad, and otherwise use any cream labelled for very dry alternated with the "Gloves in a Bottle" lotion to try and maintain the moisture barrier.

MamaMiaOhDear · 10/02/2023 21:10

Aldi "Lacura Intensive Hand Cream" it's a version of Neutrogena Norwegian Formula but honestly it's 10 times better, and it cost about 99p!

It's like a petroleum jelly type consistency, my hands were cracked and peeling and I used this each evening for 3 nights and they've healed already!

CathyorClaire · 10/02/2023 21:11

I've been using Body Shop Hemp cream this year and it's the first year nothing at all has cracked.

Quite surprised as normally I'm like a well aged leather sofa...

ghislaine · 10/02/2023 21:16

Can’t believe no-one’s suggested Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. If it’s good enough for a prince’s frostbitten todger…

Completely agree. I love this one. It's the only handy cream I use.

ThatLibraryMiss · 10/02/2023 21:23

Superdrug's Hand Cream Intensive Moisture is £1.49, currently buy one get one half price so you can buy loads and keep one on every sink, next to your bed, next to the sofa, in your handbag, in the car... It's got glycerin and urea, both very good at moisturising, it's non-greasy and it has a pleasant light smell that vanishes quickly.

If you want to spend more, Flexitol has glycerin and urea plus lanolin so it's heavier.

UnattendedPotato · 10/02/2023 21:23

Garnier body intensive restoring hand cream with glycerin and maple sap. I'm very allergic to lanolin with eczema and psoriasis and use this when inflamed. Aldi lacura miracle cream with orange oil is a nice overnight treatment with gloves. Both cheap enough to be worth a punt.

Catdaft · 10/02/2023 21:26

Garnier hand repair (red tube) the best stuff ever and cheap!

This one
I ignore the "just a dab" and slather it on at night with socks over
Then use gloves in a bottle during the day to protect

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 10/02/2023 21:28

Dr pawpaw hand cream. Not the universal balm thing as that’s sticky and leaves your hands greasy. The actual hand cream.
first time I brought in Waitrose for about £6 I then saw it in home bargains for £1.99 so got a few.
must nice and rich and I apply it a few times a day and it’s made a huge difference to my hands. No more sore cracked knuckles.

SettingPrecedents · 10/02/2023 21:28

Altruist 10% Urea. It’s the only thing (I’ve tried literally hundreds) that stops my fingers splitting when it’s cold and dry.

Also switch any liquid soaps to a solid goats milk soap.

12345mummy · 10/02/2023 21:29

Another one for Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream - the lady in the shop told me it’s used by a lot of nurses/beauticians (lots of hand washing) and I can see why. It’s the only thing that works for me.

I agree about this one, it's brilliant. And I have some white cotton gloves (from a website that sells products for allergies/eczema care) which I wear at night over a thick layer of the hand cream if my hands are really cracked and sore. It works very well. Neutrogena Norwegian formula is also good and I do like O'Keefe's Working Hands - but even plain old vaseline or emulsifying ointment works well under the cotton gloves

Jcmars01 · 10/02/2023 21:36

Another vote for the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream!

Itsmeeloise · 10/02/2023 22:09

La Roche Posay is fab

Shootingstar11 · 10/02/2023 22:12

Amazing thank you, I’m going to give some of these a try! 😊👍
