I normally just stick a bit of brown eyeliner and mascara on. I'd like to make a bit more of my eyes. Eyes are blue with dark blonde hair. Bonus points if I can buy stuff in Boots tomorrow 😅

For me it depends if it’s daytime or night.

if daytime it’s generally mascara which is usually waterproof, nude eyeliner in rim and a Maybelline Tattoo Liner Gel pencil in Rose Gold on lower lash line as I find this most flattering for day.

evening it’s mascara again (Monsieur Big by Lancôme is a fave), a darker eyeliner pencil (Urban Decay) but also put some towards end of top lash line and eyeshadow too but this depends on my mood and what I’m wearing. Primer does help eyeshadow to stay but I’ve found a face primer works just as well on the eye area for me.

woodhill · 10/02/2023 12:07

I tend to use some eyeshadow on lid, light brown or pink power then brown increase, eyeliner under top lashes bit hit and miss then mascara, nothing under eye apart from concealer

I was thinking about buying a Laura Mercier cream eyeshadow stick

Are they better for older eyes?

I use N07 eye primer first

When you say on lower lash line, is that under the lashes, or next to the eye like Kohl?

I find it really hard to apply liner under the eyes, it always feels very heavy handed. Top lid is much more forgiving.

picklemewalnuts · 10/02/2023 13:56

Ooh me me me! I use a soft chubby eyeliner- very sloppily applied. Pearlised, so no sharp lines, it's just really forgiving. Then brown or black tightline. It gives the intensity. I get really good definition that way, with a pop of colour from the chubby.

Also, brush a little swipe of blusher/bronzer in your socket and at the edges of your face. Think of a number 3 from your forehead, round under your cheeks, then round under your jaw. A tiny dab of highlight on brow bone, nose bridge, cheekbone and top lip.

I have a boring nude lipstick that does the whole blusher bronzing lip thing in one go. Warms me up. Then use a dab of far too strong red on my lips, to warm and brighten the nude.

30 second makeup is the way to go! Especially as we get a bit older and our skin doesn't cope well with the 53 layer look.

JMAngel1 · 10/02/2023 13:56

i’m 50 and realise less is more. So I just put a bit of bronzer in the crease and then 2 coats of mascara. Just found a 4D tubing fibre mascara on Amazon which is amazing.

@JMAngel1 , could post a link/the name please? TIA

Justleaveitblankthen · 10/02/2023 14:06

I just dab on Berry colored Bourjois eyeshadow with fingers only! - anytime I use a brush it goes everywhere 😅
Also a touch of light gold highlighter under the brow.

Deep green eyes, red hair (took a pic of 1eye & was totally identifiable) 😂

With this one it’s under the lashes and because it’s such a light colour you don’t really need to blend.

I can add darker eyeliner under the lashes but I find this needs a very light touch or a bit of blending as it can look harsh.

I like and don’t like those cream eyeliner sticks and have bought the LM ones too. They’re nice but not something I reach for a lot.

Avon do glimmersticks which is the same product but cheaper than the LM one.

Elf shadow stick. Try a copper-y shade. Rub it on the lid and blend it out with your ring finger. Add mascara-I recommend Maybelline sky high. Takes two minutes and will make your eyes pop.

I have a brown elf stick, might try this thanks

I've this it's more grey than blue (they used to do a 'bluer' one which I loved but no longer unfortunately). I put the lightest all over my lid, the middle colour on the outer edge of my eyelid and socket, and the darkest one I use as an eye liner with an eyeliner brush. this is ok for the price if you have one. Evenings I also use the dark eyeshadow to line the outside edge of my upper lid.

Worth asking at the No7 counter if they could try it on you before you buy (or any others suggested).

The other thing I've found helps as my eyes age.... after applying eyeshadow, put a little bit of eye cream on a cotton bud and use it to clean up any eyeshadow which has gone into creases which I have between the top of my nose and brow.

WeRateSquirrels · 10/02/2023 15:17

I generally just use a wash of Bobbi Brown 'bone' eye shadow and some taupe or bronze eye liner , then dark brown mascara. The eye shadow just evens everything out and has a subtle brightening effect. Occasionally I use a light dab of a pale taupe cream eye shadow instead.

Anything more than that just tends to make me look tired - particularly anything with pink or red tones.

Chewbecca · 10/02/2023 15:21

I use a bit of pinky brown shadow on the lid (not up to eyebrow), some grey eyeliner on top lashline which I put on roughly then smudge. Brown mascara fairly generously and brush my brows through. Fairly strong pink lips.

I can’t link as it takes you to my Amazon details but it’s a black 4D fibre waterproof mascara by Nifeishi. I look like I’m wearing false lashes - think I’ll just do one coat tomorrow 😂

JMAngel1 · 10/02/2023 15:57

Here’s a quick photo. That’s 2 coats - my lashes are barely noticeable with no mascara so I’m really impressed with this one. It’s better than YSL faux cils and Lancôme Hypnose imo

I use a blending eye shadow brush and put pinky beige all over the lid. Then blend in a light brown in the socket line and the outer 1/3 and under bottom lashes

Then a soft taupe eye liner and brown mascara.

I am a silver grey blond highlighted person with blue eyes. It takes me 3 mins.

Tirednest · 10/02/2023 16:34

That mascara looks great!

Which taupe eyeliner @AnyFucker

AnyFucker · 10/02/2023 17:21

@Tirednest it’s the Rimmel Scandaleyes taupe eyeliner. Cheap and very cheerful.

justasking111 · 10/02/2023 20:03

A glamorous colleague at work put me onto MAC lipstick. It really is long lasting and has the wow factor. Doesn't bleed either

SwedishEdith · 10/02/2023 20:16

Boots Natural Collection have quite a few brown/rose gold eyeshadows and they've dead cheap.

I put dark brown eyeshadow on the top lid close to the eyelashes, almost like an eyeliner. Then brush over the whole lid with a lighter brown. Then the socket with the darker one again or a cheap plummy one. Blend all together. Sometimes then apply an actual eyeliner and finish with mascara.

Make sure you do something with your eyebrows as well. I use some mid brown crayon thing that evens out the colour.

Darklane · 10/02/2023 20:21

Concealer on lid to even out any redness, dusted with a matt pale powder shadow like Bobbi Brown bone, though usually a cheaper one from Boots
No7 Stay Perfect Shade And Define In the socket, Rimmel pencil liner dusted over with a dark powder shadow on a fine brush to stop it drifting. Mascara.

Vicliz24 · 10/02/2023 20:42

I use a green grey shadow ( lily Lolo ) all over the lid and into the socket following the shape of my socket . Then a cheap black eyeliner felt tip ( essence , Wilkos) I flick it out and up at the ends to counterbalance my ageing eyelids. Two coats of black mascara. I've always worn a smoky eye .
