Talk to me about cleansing…I use water and a flannel!

Is this bad for my skin? Why do I need to use a product once mascara, lippy etc is removed? What will it do for my skin?
And what is micellar water??!

I cleanse once to remove make them once again to clean my skin, often an oil as it's nice spending a moment massaging it in. Personal preference though.

I actually am finding fuse free products are more compatible with my skin as I'm ageing.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/02/2023 22:11

Fuss free obviously.
Although maybe 100 volts would sort my jowells out Grin

Eyesopenwideawake · 06/02/2023 22:11

Me too, but I don't use lippy or mascara! Wash with flannel and water, slap on moisturiser. Job done. Skin is clear and plump (not bad for 60!)

Amethyst6 · 06/02/2023 22:12

Do you use water and a flannel to remove your makeup?
If you haven't tried it give Aldi hot cloth cleanser a go. It's amazing and so cheap. Micellar water is a gentle cleanser than you can also use to remove makeup with cotton pads.

HellcatSpangledShalalala · 06/02/2023 22:12

I don't think there's anything wrong with it really if your skin is happy with that. I have really dry skin so need a moisturising cleanser as using water would make my skin so dry.

Icecreamandapplepie · 06/02/2023 22:15

Warm water and flannel here too. Splash it with cold water in the morning.

Skin good- so far!

LiftyLift · 06/02/2023 22:16

Superdrug do some great, cheap hot cloth cleansers that you can use with a flannel. Michelle water is used after the hot cloth cleanse stage to remove any further traces of make up. You’d be surprised at how much stays on the skin after cleansing.

Reinventinganna · 06/02/2023 22:28

I use Emma hardie cleanser. It’s amazing.

NancyJoan · 06/02/2023 22:31

Well, what are you using to take of your lipstick and eye make-up? A cleanser?

Iamatissuebox · 07/02/2023 07:03

@NancyJoan I use an eye make up remover, usually Lancôme bi-facil. But don’t use anything on my skin.

my face does get very dry (would say combination skin which can get greasy on chin and forehead)

Get yourself some Body Shop cammomolie balm then use your wash cloth and water in the same way you do now, takes everything off nicely.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 07/02/2023 08:55

I use the same.

On the advice of the make up counters I switched to 'cleansers', and other expensive articles.

My skin did not appreciate it, i had many breakouts, I felt dirty and it left my skin so incredibly dry and flaking.

LottieTx · 07/02/2023 09:06

Micellear water made me break out and really dried out my skin. I use a soap and glory cleanser with warm water and a flannel and it gets everything off. Sometimes I do another cleanse with a Liz Earle one but more often than not I don’t bother and use a toner, some facial oil if I’m in the mood and then moisturiser. I use some eye cream as well, whether it’s doing anything or not is another thing! Skin has been looking much brighter and much less dry.

yumscrumfatbum · 07/02/2023 09:14

I've been having lots of issues with my skin over the last few years. I have peridontal dermititis that glows bright red if I go near it with any product. I have stripped my skin care right back to water, a basic moisturiser and mineral sunscreen. I used to be super dry but not any more. I think my PD was caused by over exfoliating and use of acids. Less is more for me!

Bozzonova · 07/02/2023 09:17

I never tried micellar cleanse, sounds good to me though. I currently use EM purifier that removes the everyday dirt from my skin, thus it feels soft and nourished. For removal of make up I use pure coconut oil.

PAFMO · 07/02/2023 09:22

Micellar water should be used as the first step in cleansing to remove makeup. It's not a cleanser per se. It's also an oil in water formulation that leaves a microscopic greasy residue on the skin which is why a second cleanse after it is recommended. Lots of people don't get on with it at all for this reason as it is quite pore-blocking. I use it if I'm dead tired but definitely don't notice the glowy- and soft smooth skin that I do with a cleanser and a hot cloth.

PAFMO · 07/02/2023 09:24

What moisturizer are you using OP?

That's interesting as I've been using it to remove mascara but as my eyes have been very, very easily irritated I've then avoided second cleanse on them to avoid further irritation.

I've since been diagnosed with blephatitis and touch wood, antibiotic cream seems to have made it better ( they look clear tod, really clear for the first time in ages).

I'm wondering if the miscellar water has been making it worse especially if it's leaving residue?

Blephasol seems to be keeping them calmer even though it's bloody expensive

Seconded. Gorgeous stuff.

Iamatissuebox · 07/02/2023 17:56

@PAFMO I use Kiehls ultra facial cream

Hm interesting on micellar water - I think I’d better stay clear of that as I can easily get blocked pores, blackheads, breakouts

my skin is actually looking pretty good at the moment, other than soaking everything up and drying out as the day goes on. Maybe I should leave be! But I’m a scaredy cat 🙀

I use lovely balms just because they feel nice. It's satisfying and enjoyable for me. I love the oily ones.

Iamatissuebox · 07/02/2023 20:01

@doadeer I love a nice smell, but mostly feel like I should be using a proper cleansing routine now I’m getting old 😂
