Just that, really. I'd love opinions on it - is it fashionable? frumpy? daywear or occasion?

I just saw the price now as well. No chance I'd get it myself.

Its from Jigsaw though and you have distance selling laws, so if you're 50/50, order it and if you're not happy send it back.

Getamoveon36 · 06/02/2023 10:11

Frumpy and dated. Surprised it’s from jigsaw tbh. Sort of thing I’d expect to see in M&co or peacocks.

Rinkydinkydoodle · 06/02/2023 10:20

Sorry OP but the model is your typical sickening Amazon and it looks a bit huddery on her. At 5 foot 5 it would be molto maxi. Those sleeves are frumpy, and the thought of paying £175 for viscose blows my mind. I feel your pain re: sack of spuds look. Can you wear a wrap dress? I have large bazooms and a short body and find Guess to be well cut. This could be worn in a lot of different settings:

Dibbydoos · 06/02/2023 10:23

It's lovely!

Great shape, dress up with a jacket and court shoes or down with a cardy and boots.

Catspyjamas17 · 06/02/2023 10:28

Ultimately if you like it, @WinterFoxes , and feel good in it, go for it. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, and frumpy is a misogynistic term anyway, invented by fashion designers to make women beat themselves up. I'm sure people posting here saying it's frumpy would have a different idea about that than me and if they posted some other dresses I'd probably think they were outdated or unappealing.

What I would say is, the floral dress I posted earlier I could wear for work now, but I definitely couldn't have got away with it in other workplaces, whereas the Jigsaw one you posted I probably could have, as it's a little more conservative in pattern and colour. So it depends what you want to wear it for really. I personally find that shape and length of dress really flattering and useful for me (quite tall, late 40s, size 12-14, evenly proportioned figure), as you can dress them up or down, wear them with boots or pumps, with tights or not, with a jumper or jacket, for work or for going out after.

Hohoholdthesherry · 06/02/2023 10:32

I don't love it, the print is busy and I find the sleeves a bit old-fashioned, but it can often be the photos, so maybe worth ordering to try on?

BooCrew · 06/02/2023 10:32

I like it and it looks like it would be flattering - hooray for waists and v necks coming back into fashion! But I don't love it, on the model at least. I don't really like the pattern, it does look like it could easily be in a cheapo shop. I don't like the frilly sleeves, they're silly. And the length could be tricky if you're not tall. So it will depend how it sits on your body and what the fabric feels and moves like. I'm not anti-viscose, sometimes it's lovely and swishes beautifully, but you can't know without trying on.

DUH. It would massively help if I added the link!

Jigsaw grey and black maxi dress

Very drab looking.

Vegetablesupreme · 06/02/2023 10:35

I was going to say the same as a few others...that it's a lot of money for viscose! BUT, for the fact it has the qualities you have been looking for , I.e a fitted waist etc it may well be worth paying that bit extra.
I personally prefer an unfitted waist as although on the slim side, all of my fat seems to gather on my stomach like I'm 9months pregnant !!
One pp did point out that the model is 5'11 so on you at 7" shorter, I'm not sure whether the waist measurement will be at YOUR waist height (or weather it will be but the total length would be maximum rather than midi length iyswim)
As for styling it, I would think day wear/going for lunch rather than evening wear. Chunky boots, tan accessories, gold chain/earrings or colour pop bag/earrings.
I definitely would order though with a plan to return if doesn't look quite right on as you so seem very keen on it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/02/2023 10:43

The thick end of £200 for viscose and polyester?! Getaway.

TenoringBehind · 06/02/2023 10:50

I like it but think it looks silly with the boots in the photo and would be very cold at this time of year!

You’d have to be very tall and thin to look good in it though. I’m 5’2 and would look awful wearing it.

I think daytime event - wedding, christening, graduation ceremony type dress, but would be fine for a slightly more relaxed event.

Supersimkin2 · 06/02/2023 11:13

I love it. If it fits, buy it.

Fit is vital with dresses that pop out everywhere - I too love wafty dresses and am at risk of suffering from mushroom syndrome 🍄 . Check you can always see your wrists.

Jumped on to suggest Ghost but if that doesn’t fit you, Warehouse does surprisingly good dress. Rixo too - but some fabrics are superb (very tough silk), others fray when you look at them.

£175 is not a lot for a dress you’ll wear constantly. When it gets knackered, dye it dark blue and carry on for another year.

WinterFoxes · 06/02/2023 11:15

One pp did point out that the model is 5'11 so on you at 7" shorter, I'm not sure whether the waist measurement will be at YOUR waist height

This is what I'm not sure about. There was a gorgeous Ghist dress that should have been perfect on me, but there was so much extra fabric above the waistline because it was cut for a taller woman, so it sagged and looked awful. But petite ranges are for 5'3 and under and never sit right either.

PrinceHaz · 06/02/2023 11:16

It’s fine. Very flexible for different events. The only thing I’d say is it would look wildly different on different people. I’m short with small shoulders and a bit hippy and would probably look like Little Bo Peep in a nightie in it. If you’re average height to tall and have regular proportions it would look really nice.

WinterFoxes · 06/02/2023 11:17

@Supersimkin2 -

LOL at mushroom - that's just what the Ghost dress did on me.

I like your thinking. I agreee it's not too much money if i get a lot of wear from it, which I think I will. Lots of things are just right (sleeves that cut off just below not above the elbow, good neckline, fitted waist etc - as long as the body isn't too long

OP posts:
PrinceHaz · 06/02/2023 11:20

To add, I often find that when a model wears a v neck or a crossover, they make the v look nice and deep. In reality, the v might not go deep enough and the top part of the dress ends up looking like a cleaner’s overall. I had to send back a velvet Bombshell dress for this reason.

cravingtoblerone · 06/02/2023 11:20

I think it's a bit dull and frumpy tbh.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/02/2023 11:26

It's OK. But only OK. Bit nothingy. And very expensive for the fabric

WinterFoxes · 06/02/2023 11:32

@Catspyjamas17 -I saw that OB dress in the shop. Perfect waistline but the sleeves are too princessy for me. I want something a bit less stand out. A bit more background, if you know what I mean. I have soem gorgeous dresses from OB but they are a few years old now and i fancied a change. I have some Look At Me dresses but i just want something quiet and unobtrusive but floaty and springlike.

I am listening to all PPs who say the model is 5'11 and the fit would be very different on me.

Thanks so much for your opinions!

LawksaMercyMissus · 06/02/2023 11:33

Love it, its exactly what I've been looking for!

GoingOnce · 06/02/2023 11:37

It looks like the same style as a blue floral version they did last year, which I have. If so, it’s very flattering and the sleeves give a beautiful shape. I agree with that it works for all seasons. If you can afford it, it’ll probably be a good long-term investment.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 06/02/2023 11:37

I have a dress like this from M&S which is very similar in shape and style It was worn by Kate Middleton at some point and I clicked on the link and thought I would try it and could return if it was no good, but it actually looked really nice on - and still does - and retails at £29.99. The only thing I do not like about it is the sleeves which are annoying on the elastic part.
I would say it is far too expensive and you can find the same dress cheaper elsewhere as I did

Tangfastic71 · 06/02/2023 11:55

At that price I would shop in the Me & Em sale instead. Beautiful flattering dresses…always a longer hem at the back which I love (I have a protruding bum 🤣). Everything is machine washable and very well made

Orangebadger · 06/02/2023 11:56

toucaninjapan · 06/02/2023 09:33

To be honest this particular print looks exactly like some prints I see at nearby shops selling clothes aimed at 60+ years old women (and I think such prints look ageing at anyone, even 90 years olds!).
The shape of the dress is nice though

Agree with this. Lovely shape dress but for me that print would make me look like a frump! But if you can carry it off then it would probably look nice.

GallantGus · 06/02/2023 12:44

Going against the grain I don’t like this dress at all! Especially the sleeves. I can’t think of anything that could make it look better. It doesn’t even look good on the model.
