Help for very fragile weak nails

whatsup44 · 01/02/2023 20:08

Any recommendations for the best product for very weak nails that break easily and full of ridges

Really want to grow my nails but after years of biting them they really don't have any strength and just break doing normal things

Any recommendations of tried and tested products please. Thank you

Taking collagen has really helped mine. I have to file them down now.

L-lysine, an amino acid, made mine really tough.
But also a skin hair and nails multi vit would compliment this.
Just be aware it will take time to see a difference as you'll need to grow out the old.

I have been taking vitamin D and calcium supplements since Christmas and have noticed my nails are stronger.

Mine used to be strong but not now. Which nail pill in particular do you take?

Vaseline. At bedtime Put a dab on each nail and rub/smooth over the nail.

mine are long and flexible and I have been doing this for over five decades!

You must file them gently every day as well.

From memories of the last time I stopped biting them (yeah, I know - life got in the way), the best option is to clip them down and file the corners so there aren't any sharp bits to catch for around three months, making sure that they never extend beyond the tips of your fingers throughout that period. That also gives time for your fingers to adjust to the pressure of the longer nails on the nailbed.

Add into that moisturising and pushing back cuticle skin daily and that gives them the best chance.

I'm trying to start leaving them alone again and the biggest thing to me is healing the skin - once that's done, the growing is easier, even though in my case, there's some sort of anomaly that means one thumbnail always, always cracks at the side long before it gets anywhere near the top of the nailbed, so in the absence of a decent salon offering builder in a bottle stuff, I think I'll have to start getting shellac-type polish over them (with soak offs, never filing).

Maybe there could be a specific nails/manicure/pedicure/sorting hands and feet out /etc thread set up?
