M&S clothing prices

Is it me or have the prices gone up massively, I'm sure I paid £45 for the ruched sleeve blazer less than 1 year ago, and now £70 😱

I can’t see any for £70. Most are under £50. I think I got mine last summer for £45.

TattiePants · 01/02/2023 18:28

I’ve just bought another pair of side stripe joggers and a merino jumper. Both were exactly the same price as the ones I bought last year.

BHRK · 01/02/2023 18:28

I think M&S clothes prices are a bargain compared to other high street shops. For the quality I think it’s good

Wibblewibble1 · 01/02/2023 18:30

I think price has gone up. I love the clothes but yeah I think they’ve increased.

TheOGCCL · 01/02/2023 18:32

They've got a lot of different brands now so there's a much bigger range of prices. I haven't noticed a major increase in their own range clothes.

ItsCalledAConversation · 01/02/2023 18:32

I don’t understand what’s to love about M&S clothes, I used to love them about 15 years ago but they’re all so pink and pale and fuddy duddy now and way too many choices. It also gives me rage that they stock 10,000 near identical pink nighties but NO girls clothes in our local store.

I disagree. I think it’s currently one of the best shops around, I’ve bought nearly everything there over the last 18 Months or so after not even setting foot in there for about 20 years

What have you bought, I’d love to know what’s good but don’t have time to wade through all the wrong options online

Weirdly I agree with you, I've realised that over the last year or so the new things that I have worn the most have been from M&S.
I usually buy bras and underwear there and camisoles for underneath jumpers and shirts.

But I've also found their jumpers to be really nice quality, and last summer I basically lived in a pair of striped wide leg linen cropped trousers that I bought from M&S, love them!

ThewaytoAmarula · 02/02/2023 11:20

How much would you want to be paid per hour to stitch a ruched-sleeve blazer? Also the cost of materials, fuel etc has risen... Clothes have been too cheap for too long. Not denying that the quality is increasingly shite, but I don't know that the answer is.

I bought this recently and love it, it's very casual but really comfy and washes well.

I also have my eye on this -

I used to buy tops and jumpers like that in Oasis (RIP), because I liked the colours and flattering detail, so these to me seem a bit similar.

I've heard M&S jeans are good, but I'll be sticking to my Vero Moda jeans because I know their sizes well and what fits me.

Honestly, I'm 38 and never thought I'd be loving M&S clothes but here we are!

Niftythrifter · 02/02/2023 12:08

I think that the price for M and S clothes is fair for the quality and don’t feel like it’s a shop where I think I will only buy something from there if it’s on sale unlike other retailers. I think the strategy of selling other brands alongside their own brand means that you are effectively able to decide there and then if the quality and price is what you are looking for in terms of comparing a known brand and their clothes.

VastQuantities · 02/02/2023 12:34

I buy a lot of basics from M&S- jeans, plain jumpers, coats (as well as socks/ underwear etc). I think their prices are good- they're not the cheap end of the high street but they aren't expensive either.
I know lots of people say they use cheap fabrics but I think they are good value for money.
I don't like the vast majority of their stuff- but I don't like the vast majority of other shops either. I just pick and choose the bits I like. I would say it's the first place I look ( I always shop online). It used to be John Lewis but I think they don't have enough at lower price points. I've bought one or two bits of clothing from their Anyday range. It's fine but not outstanding. I also like New Look and H&M; Whistles and Jigsaw; Baujken and Me & Em....but M&S is always where I look first.

The ruched sleeve blazer is showing as £49.50 on the website.

Yes prices have increased (eg the £15 jeggings are now £17.50 and the £19.50 jeans £22.50) but nowhere near as much as you are saying.

I'm seeing a lot of this 'price exaggeration' recently and I don't understand why people do it. Like all the people losing their minds about the cost of Lurpak, citing the non special offer price of the largest available tub from the most expensive supermarket as 'evidence' that absolutely no-one can afford to buy food any more.

While anyone with any sense just buys own brand from a cheaper supermarket and never even looks at £9 tubs of Lurpak, £4 boxes of Kelloggs cornflakes in the Co-op or £3 tubes of Pringles, except to wonder who on earth would ever buy them.

QueefofSheena · 02/02/2023 13:32

I agree that they have some nice things. I’ve been really coveting the Jaeger biker, as there’s room for big boobs. It’s a touch too spendy for me at £300 as it’s basically an M&S jacket now that they own the brand.
