I have nailed my 3 minute make up....

I've always had a, shall we call it "low maintenance" approach to make up. But over the last few months I've had to accept that at close to 50, well into peri-menopause and distinctly overweight, slapping on a bit of light foundation isn't cutting it. So I started experimenting with better make up. And it worked, I looked great. BUT it took forever.

3 months later, I'm proud to say I've got my basic, "every day" look down to 3 minutes! Grin

For anyone interested:

Step 1: mix moisturising face base (bobbi brown) with a few drops of foundation, and apply super quickly with a sponge
Step 2: little bit of highlighter/bronzer (sadly, this is 100% new - but I simply can't get away without it anymore) using a brush.
Step 3. Quick dusting of blusher on upper cheeks
Step 4: quick application of a eye brow mascara but v light
Step 5: Coat of brown mascara
Step 6: Bit of lip gloss or lipstick.

Obviously if I am going out or doing more activities, I take longer and more care. And there are still days when I just don't bother at all. But this 3 minute process really makes me feel a lot better without looking too made up.

Anyone else have a similar routine? And any hot tips? The foundation/facebase combo has probably been the biggest game changer for me in terms of speed and efficiency.

You do the same as me, almost!

Foundation, applied with fingers.
Cream blush, blended with fingers
Brow powder
small amount of nudeish eyeshadow
Mascara
Lippy

Takes about 3 mins in total

HiddenGiraffes · 31/01/2023 09:16

I haven't worn makeup except for special occasions in years (young kids, work in the eve only from home) and I want to start. Taking notes!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/01/2023 09:21

I'm the same, always been super quick with make up.

Doublewear with AYU buffer brush
Tight line with AYU brown/black eyeliner
AYU olive eyeshadow stick
Maybelline Colosas mascara
Lippy

3-5 mins

Sparklingblah · 31/01/2023 09:23

Very similar to me!

spf45 which is like a primer

mix of a couple different foundations on the back of my hand depending on skin (this sounds complex but more like splodge splodge mix). Fingers and few jabs with a beauty blenders.

concealer under eyes

gel blush

dash of powder as am still very shiny - not an old school marshmallow effect, just targeted to take off excess shine and fix.

dash of cream eyeshadow with a finger on a good day

very fine Rimmel or maybelline brow pencil and brush through with gel.

on a wow day, sweep of hourglass dim light and some mascara.

does anyone have a good gel or cream bronzer recommendation that isn’t sparkly or ££££?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 31/01/2023 09:29

Going to watch this thread as I'm currently on antibiotic cream to shift bastard blephatitis so rocking the greasy boiled egg face look.

But until recently I'd always put some powder all over my face after bb cream (garnier one or origins both lovely depending how /£ are) and when I properly looked at my face last week with my specs on I'm convinced the powder, although applied sparingly and cream blush after, was just dulling my face and adding years on. It's weird though as I'm so used to putting it on my make up kind of feels unfinished otherwise.

Thanks op, going to come back when my eyes return Grin

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 31/01/2023 09:30

Brands I referred to were for bb cream

Ivyy · 31/01/2023 09:49

Sounds like a fab quick routine op!

I'm trying tretenoin at the moment and having issues with skin peeling when I put my cc cream on, bits of flaky skin are visible and I hate it.
Would adding some of these moisture base serums or drops or something similar to my cc cream help?

MsMarch · 31/01/2023 10:13

@Ivyy I basically recommend the Bobbi Brown face base to everyone for everything. Skin feels a bit dry? Add some BBface base. Skin a bit flakey? Try some BB face base. It certainly can't hurt.

It's quite expensive so ask if they can do you a sample pot to try first.

Not too dissimilar here:
Serum+moisturiser
Erborian CC cream
Swipe of NARS multiple on cheeks
Eyeliner,
curl eyelashes
swipe mascarra
Lip gloss on way out door. Done!

Ivyy · 05/02/2023 15:26

@MsMarch thanks for the tip I'll def try and get a tester pot first, love BB products but haven't bought any for a few years as they did get pretty pricey. I'd buy something I really liked though and they do last a while if I remember Smile

Boshi · 05/02/2023 15:40

I am also super quick with makeup even my party occasions face takes me 10-15m tops

My morning makeup is
spf
dusting of face powder as a primer
Concealer around eyes and nose
Redust with face powder
pencil liner then pen liner over the top to set

And 10 second dab of blush if I feel the need to impress 😂

I use Dior addict lip glow all day which keeps my lips pink and shiny

ELF have just brought out a dupe for the Chanel cream bronzer.
I've not tried it but saw it on a Nadine bagot video.

Niftythrifter · 05/02/2023 17:08

Foundation mixed with primer and applied by hand

clear mascara through the eyebrows

blusher on and the blusher used as eyeshadow

mascara

Done

70sDuvet · 06/02/2023 00:21

@Sparklingblah primark did, and hopefully still do a dupe of the chanel bronzer.
It was £4. I bought it initially to see if I would use the chanel one before shelling out. But I love the primark one. Not orangey, no glitter and it blends really well.

You perhaps need something more emollient in the evening with your Tret. On the evenings I use Tret I use Astral. Haven't had any flaking- been on 0.5 for about 6 months but am still only using it three times a week.

My morning make up routine is:
Moisturizer
Spf50
Let those settle while brush teeth
Foundation with fingers
Mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil
Rimmel Wondercloud liquid shadow
Revolution CC finishing powder.

Takes about 3-4 minutes I reckon.

plumduck · 06/02/2023 06:23

Does it really just take you 3 minutes?! Wow! I can never blend my foundation in properly and do all that!

I tried that but it stank! I was so disappointed as people rave about it.

Mxflamingnoravera · 06/02/2023 07:01

I used Laura Geller baked cream foundation, it goes on with a swirl of a brush and doesn't look heavy or dry. Blusher on my cheek bones blended with a brush, a bit of highlighter, a fill in with eyebrow pencil and the same blusher on my finger on my eyes which are hooded, so just a bit above my crease. A bit of lipstick and done. I only wear mascara in the evening, but I do curl my lashes. I'm 61 and it takes 5 mins after my shower.

I now always use a fixer spray which means it stays put. Only a cheapy from Barry M but it works.

I never use concealer it just sits in my lines and looks awful.

MountedbyHarryWindsor · 06/02/2023 07:55

I recently bought Erborian, nude, and it makes me look like a ghost.

I use primer and complexion rescue usually but had been considering other options. I want a flawless youthful look but struggling to achieve it :(

I like the scent but I can imagine if you don't it's not the product for you! :)

Yes, 3 minutes for v v basic. We had friends over yesterday and I spent more like 10 minutes putting a bit more effort in. But I find with the sponge and a foundation that isn't too heavy, getting it on and applied is pretty simple. I've also never used particularly hardcore products - my blusher/highlighter is quite subtle and doesn't need extensive blending. I was watching an insta video the other day and while the person was quick, I was a bit shocked at how much blending was needed! Grin
