What can I put on my skin?

I have sensitive skin so have always had to be careful but for some reason it has gone super sensitive and I can't seem to put anything on it. It is red, sore and feels so, so dry. If I put anything on, it feels like it is burning. I have tried all the usual recommendations such as cetraben but that makes it worse. I have been using a bit of castor oil but last time I did this for any length of time I got really bad spots.

Can tell me how to manage this? Should I be cleansing my face? I've been using Eve Lom but that stings so I'm not sure how to wash it. Help!

Olive oil might work as a cleanser, remove with dry or damp pads

Dermol 500 and 600 you can get it prescribed by the GP. Also try products that are oat based like Aveeno. Also Vaseline works with all sorts strange skin aversions.

Agree with all of these

Goodness, I don't think of my skin as particularly sensitive but could tell on first use that the Eve Lom was way too harsh.

I'm a fan of the CeraVe cleansing oil or body shop camomile balm, taken off with a damp cloth.

I use sweet almond oil from
holland and Barrett, it feels lovely on my sensitive skin

Thanks everyone. I'm going to start with the he Cerave as that seems to be popular and easily accessible.
I've taken some antihistamine this morning and it's still sore but seems to have taken the edge off the burning!

I find cetaphil cleansers and moisturisers good on my sensitive/ rosacea face

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/01/2023 17:47

Cerave is brilliant. I have very sensitive reactive skin and using their products my skin has never looked better.. and I'm 58 so have tried loads

Bodybarnet · 30/01/2023 22:39

So I have bought the Cerave. I have used the cleanser and that felt great actually. I have put the moisturizer on and it burned but the burning subsided very quickly and it is now just a bit red. Will it get better over time and should I persevere or is that a warning that it is a no??

Just my face. Currently using Eve Lom hot cloth cleanser but my face is so sore.

Stop the hot cloth cleanser, use Aveeno oat cleanser ,you may have disrupted your skin barrier, use ceramide and barrrier creams to repair.Try waleda skin food or Eucerin Aquaphor, apply thick layer like a mask.Even vaseline the blue tin one will work in place of all the above.

I had a similiar skin problem from over zealous exfoilating,my skin was burning and stung everytime i tried to put any creams on.I used a combo of the ones i mentioned and in 7 days my skin went back ro normal.

AbsolutePixels · 30/01/2023 23:05

I'd probably start with Vaseline and then hop onto YouTube to see what Dr Dray recommends for this type of problem.

The cleansers are great, the moisturisers aren’t ideal (imo) fit super sensitive skin. It’ll burn every time you put it on. Not excruciatingly, or anything, but it’s not doing your skin any good.

I'd just see for a couple more days if the CeraVe improves things,at this point your skin barrier will be wrecked so anything is likely to burn.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/01/2023 13:32

If my face is inflamed and red, I put a tiny dab of Sudocrem on underneath the Cerave cream which helps

Thays a good idea, or Vagasil like suggested above as that has lidocaine on it so will numb the burning.

The Cerave Hydrating is renowned for causing stinging
