Prolonging hair washing

Hairdresser advised this and I'm giving it a good go. I'm going minimum three, sometimes manage four days before a wash when previously it was every second day. The wash, when I do it, is unbelievable, hair looks fab and it's getting a little less greasy on day 3 and 4 than it was.

I'm wondering if anyone has particular advice on keeping my hair as half decent as possible in between washes until hair gets more used to it? What do you wear in shower when not washing it, cap or no, a certain type? I spray mists etc on my face and moisture before sleep (few hours before) and I think I should maybe cover my hair someway at this point to stop extra moisturises and oils getting in hair. Any other tips that might help?!

Love all the tips, thanks all! I'm definitely at it more than six weeks, but also definitely an improvement.

I'm on day 3 today. Pulled back into a bun. I normally go every other day but I thought I'd try an extra day. It doesn't look great but hopefully it'll adjust! I used to wash it every day even just a few weeks back so so far so good!

Wow, interesting re day 8 being better than 5! Also good tip re two washes when you do. Washed this morning but tied up to avoid touching as I know that brings on the grease.

wash it twice with sulphate free shampoo.

Right, said I'd update, in case anyone else trying it too. I'm Day 3 now and hair is up but v clean looking and not at all greasy, yay! It would have been more greasy on Day 2, 2 months ago. So I'll go to Day 4 tomorrow and see how it is. I've kept it up and off face since washing and haven't been touching it all, bar putting it up each day. I've managed to keep my skincare away from it too.

I was just about to say - make sure you're not touching it during the day like brushing it off your face or continually tucking it behind your ear.

Everything else is covered really. I happily go to Day 5 although I only have it down on the day it's freshly washed (mainly because it's curly and after a night of sleep it can't be put back into a decent style again).

I use dry shampoo on Day 3 and 4. I don't find that my hair needs to be wet for it to work and I don't find that there's much build up for two days worth. Anything that's in there all comes out with a wash, there's no ongoing build up IYSWIM.

To sleep I pile mine up in a bun on top of my head so it's not touching my skin and also so it's out of the way as I'm a back sleeper so a ponytail or plait is annoying.
