Will a lumea work (with hairy leg pics)?

I can't believe I'm posting pictures of my hairy, blotchy legs. I have my winter coat and I apologise to anyone they offend. 🤣 (But equally, it's only hair.)

I'd like a Lumea but I can't work out on the charts if my skin/hair contrast is good enough. My camera hasn't caught the really light one's. Has anyone had experience using it on similar colours?

And while you're here, do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of the red spots please? Exfoliating makes no difference.

You can't believe you're posting them...I can't believe I'm zooming in to see if they look the same as mine 😂 I think you could be OK with a lumea. I've had pretty good results (or I did, I've let it lapse a bit as it is quite a lot of effort).

AmIreallyBeverly · 28/01/2023 19:22

@Parmavi0lets You are the only person to appreciate my hairy pins. 🤣

I got one today. Philips have a 100 day refund offer if it doesn't work so nothing to lose I guess.

This was mine two years ago. Took a year to get them smooth but it has been worth it. The lumea has paid for itself now.

If I had hair like yours I wouldn't bother! I have black leggings hair that resembles pubes ffs. It does work but I stopped bothering as it is a little painful and I'm lazy!

Plonkety · 28/01/2023 19:58

Yes, it will. It's fucking amazing!

I have dark coarse body hair which would grow back within an hour of shaving. I also have sensitive skin that reacts to everything. I suffered with years of shaving/waxing/epilating rashes, spots and horrific ingrown hairs. It caused me years of stress, time, embarrassment and pain.

I couldn't afford expensive salon laser treatments.

Then I got the lumea a coioke.of years ago. Was a major purchase for me, never spent anywhere near this amount of money on a home-use beauty aid. But my god, it's changed my life. Worth every single penny.

Im sorry, I dont have any before pics, but I was very similar to the pic provided by @megletthesecond I've attached pics of my legs right now though. I haven't shaved in weeks. I only shave if I'm wearing a skirt for a special occasion now. But it literally takes a quick 30 second shave on each leg because the hair is so fine and sparse. And even this fine sparse hair, that you cant even see, grows back sooo slowly. Same on underarms and bikini line. I can now go spontaneously swimming in my nice cozzy without a massive stressful pre-planned shave beforehand!

Ps. I found the red spots changed to a more faded freckly colour now that I've stopped shaving so often and not irritating my skin. I think due to natural pigmentation they won't ever disappear, but definitely far less noticeable than the red spots

You barely have an hair! Mine was more like chewbacca.

But yeh it should work, and it does help with the red dots, no idea how but mine have pretty much gone

lynnebroad · 28/01/2023 20:11

I have a Lumea thing to use. Though im wondering if I'm weird as I only have a few sparse dark hairs on my lower legs near the ankle.

napody · 29/01/2023 10:07

It'll work like a charm! Get the cheaper corded one, not the cordless one whose battery will die at some point.
It only took me half a dozen goes over a couple of weeks in 2021 to pretty much abandon leg shaving completely.

Workinghardeveryday · 29/01/2023 10:10

I have one and never used it. I am terrified it will burn me or something.

Does anyone know if that is possible?!

ArtVandalay · 29/01/2023 10:13

They don’t burn or hurt. You don’t feel a thing.

My hairy legs are a distant memory, ditto hairy armpits.

WhatsitWiggle · 29/01/2023 10:14

Yes it will work. I have virtually no hair on my lower legs now (some grow back round my knees and ankles but that's it) and nothing on my underarms. Stubborn peri-meno chin hairs totally gone too - my main reason for buying as I was tired of carrying tweezers with me everywhere in case one suddenly appeared. Going to tackle my upper legs this year.

I did 2 x the initial phase and then monthly maintenance for a while, as bigger gaps caused it to grow back. But now I can go months.

WhatsitWiggle · 29/01/2023 10:16

@Workinghardeveryday it won't burn but you should shave the hair first, otherwise it singes the hair - not painful but it stinks! If you find it a bit stingy, go down a level or two, but then it'll likely need more sessions.

lynnebroad · 29/01/2023 10:17

I haven't used mine either but I'm thinking ahead for summer. I'm going to try it this week. I have the Braun brand

I think there's an attachment (it's still boxed) but is it effective on bikini area?

Workinghardeveryday · 29/01/2023 10:20

@WhatsitWiggle thank you!

I would really like to use it on my face. I have very fine light hair that doesn’t bother me, but with that I have a darker upper lip and some coarse chin hair that I pluck.

I don’t want to shave my face or the light hair will become more coarse. Would it be okay to use on my face?

WhatsitWiggle · 29/01/2023 10:30

@Workinghardeveryday you can choose other removal methods, but the device works by sending light down the hair shaft so you need the hair to be starting to grow back.

So you could pluck the coarse hairs or wax your top lip, wait a couple of days, then use the lumea. Over time, you're catching the growth phase of the hair. The first month it'll look like nothing is happening, then you'll realise the hairs aren't growing back as much or they're much finer.

AmIreallyBeverly · 29/01/2023 10:45

I shaved last night (I use a double sided safety razor and had to use 2 blades ie 4 disposable razors worth. TMI maybe but to show that I am hairy!). That wore me out 🤣 so I ened up using it this morning.
Probably took 30mins to read the instructions and do all of my legs, underarms and bikini.
I did the scan thing and it said I was a level 5 all over. Legs were fine, no pain at all. A teeny, tiny bit itchy now but nothing worth noting.
Underarms were a faff getting it to light up and not overlap areas. It felt a bit warm but again, nothing major. I might drop down to a 4 on them next time though as it feels a bit like I have been waxed now.
Bikini... I just did the hair out my knickers so nothing extreme. Ouch! 🤣 It felt hot and one flash felt like it burned me so I left that side completely. I dropped down to a 3 on the other side. Next time I think I'll use 2 and will start there as the machine felt like it got hotter as I went along.

I didn't use it on my face. I have a few dark hairs above my lip but didn't want to risk burning my lip.

I use one of the battery operated bikini trimmers that look like a pen on my face. It doesn't make the hair coarse.

Oh, and it smelt like burning hair.

So mixed results for my first attempt.

WhatsitWiggle · 30/01/2023 00:09

@AmIreallyBeverly ouch ouch!! Yes, the machine does get hot whilst in use. Personally, I alternated body parts to avoid having to spend 30 minutes in one sitting for that reason. So legs one week, bikini, underarms and face the following week. Use the app to track and remind you.

Bikini - level 2 or 3 will mean it will take longer to zap the hair. I didn't find it effective at those levels, especially for the "undercarriage", but I may not have peservered for long enough! It's the darker skin that makes it more sensitive. I have used emla cream to numb the area which helped but it's a faff.

SleekMamma · 30/01/2023 03:21

For little red spots its caught hairs not breaking through the top layer of skin. Only thing that works for me is Palmer's body lotion the AHA one. Put it on each day and no more red bumps.

Crazycatlady75 · 30/01/2023 09:56

I have been using the Braun for a couple of months now and my legs and armpits are virtually hair free. The upper part of my bikini line is starting to go but the "undercarriage" is stubbornly refusing to disappear. I'm also not finding great results with my peri-meno chin hair so far but I am persisting!

At the start I used to play about with the different intensities but now I just blast everywhere at full power. Sometimes it does hurt a bit on the more delicate areas but so far I haven't had any lasting pain or redness so it definitely isn't burning my skin.

AmIreallyBeverly · 30/01/2023 10:53

Yes, this was on the undercarriage. Just one spot and it definately burned rather than stung. Just one spot so I wonder if there was more hair than there should have been? Apparently that can make it burn? God. So much TMI and oversharing! Don't worry though, I'm not going to share a photo! 🤣🤣🤣

OP posts:
AmIreallyBeverly · 30/01/2023 10:57

I had my underarms professional zapped years ago so there isn't as much hair there as there was. I didn't finish the 6 sessions though and there is definately more hair than I like so I'm hoping this will make a difference. It was good but also bad because the type of hair that is left is impossible to epilate so I have to shave every few days whereas previously I was hairier but could epilate once a month/6 weeks.
