Cos down coat - yay or nay?

I bought this Cos down coat over the weekend when it was discounted. It's lovely and lightweight compared to my Zara puffer but I'm worried it isn't water repellant. It's great for the car and short walks but I'm still on the fence about it.

Does anyone have one and if so what has your experience been like?

Thanks xx

I've just bought the shorter navy down jacket. I haven't worn it yet but actually hadn't realised or thought about it not being water repellant/ water proof.
Now I'm imagining being wrapped in a water sodden duvet if I get caught in rain!
Hopefully someone who has one will come along & reassure us...

I have a Barbour which is similar and they are no good in rain. As they say "suitable for colder days".

Oh that's really nice

I have it in green and love it.

It isn't waterproof, no, but it'll keep you fairly dry if it's spitting or snowing and you're not out in it all day. I've worn it for a cold, drizzly day at the zoo and it was fine. I wouldn't use it for a really wet day, though.

I get a huge amount of use out of it. It's lovely and warm, lightweight enough that it packs down into a decent sized handbag, it looks nice, and I'd wear it on any day when it's not chucking it down with rain, so have got a lot of wear out of it. The fact it's down and very lightweight also means I don't overheat in it when it's warmer, but it's still lovely and warm when it's freezing outside, so I use mine in all seasons bar summer.

I have a similar one, and looking at the material info it is the same composition... not properly waterproof, unless it has a special coating (they'll usually advertise this in description or on a separate tag when you buy it). It will be verrrrrrry cosy and warm, though!

I've found a waterproof down is either 'waterproof outer coat with a separate down inner coat' or it costs £300-1000 for the privilege of being all in one.

Thanks. I had to do a double take at the 'double ended waterproof zip'. I mean if that's not there to mislead then I don't know what is!

I don't mind it not being properly waterproof but water repellant would be fine

Off to squish it up into a bag to see how it fits
