Properly warm wool coat?

I'm probably too late to pick anything up in the sales this year but I really want a nice wool coat.
But it's got to be warm enough to wear for commuting. Loads that I've looked at so far aren't even lined and that includes from brands I think of as pricey e.g. Brora.
Any recommendations?? It's to replace a didrikson which feels lovely but looks faded and drab.

Part of the problem is, coats have been all about dog walking, waterproofing and hoods for the past few years. So wool coats are more difficult to find, and those you can find, even from more expensive brands, are made without a lining because the shape is less structured. As you have noticed. Or the coat might have a lining but is made of a ‘wool blend’ (polyester with cursory wool, not warm enough and soon bobbles).

A friend bought a nice lined wool coat from Boden last year, but it might not be current. I’d also suggest looking at Jigsaw and Winser London, but again the coats tend to be on sale in autumn rather than after Christmas.

I’m going to suggest that you take a look at Vinted actually. All of my nice, lined, smart, warm wool coats are five years old bar one made from recycled wool that I bought at Jigsaw in autumn 2021. My best coats were from Karen Millen (quality now dropped off a cliff since being acquired by Boohoo), Joseph, Winser London, Nicole Farhi and Marella (one of the MaxMara labels). They all look good as new and come out of the dry cleaner looking great.

J Crew Stadium Wool coat is really warm. I got mine in the sale a few years ago in camel.

Depending on budget, double-faced wool coats (no lining) are very soft and warm. Obviously Max Mara is the "creme de la creme" of wool coats but a lower price point would be The Curated, Joseph, Theory (check sales and preloved). High Street wise, Reiss, Arket, & Other Stories and (unexpectedly) Mango have a range of wool coats with varying compositions.

Try a charity shop

I went into a large one recently to browse and a lady was trying on a beautiful dark green wool coat that was perfectly tailored to her body.

I told her this and that she had to get it so she did

She helped me find the perfect coffee table in return which I'm now the proud owner of. I'd been looking for ages online and the only one I really liked was £2000 Shock I was happy with my £25 purchase because it was exactly what I was after and in perfect condition

Try BrandAlley, they get a lot of the sales stocks so you're not necessarily too late.

Hobbs Tilda is 100% wool, lined, and reasonably warm, but for properly cold days you might want a Uniqlo gilet to go underneath.

Great ideas, thanks!
@Iamthewombat that makes so much sense - there is just less choice as it's not the thing. But I am bored of waterproofs and can't be the only one!
Actually the closest thing I have at the moment is a vintage Macintosh from a charity shop so maybe I need to do more hunting around
