High end mascaras...worth it?

I'm overdue a new mascara and looking for the best ever mascara

A few have come up in my research, has anyone tried them?

Yves Saint Laurent - Lash Clash

Hourglass - Caution Extreme Lash

Rare Beauty

IT Cosmetics - Super Hero

I have oily skin and get serious panda eyes so particularly interested about that aspect as well as the 'impact' the impact is somewhat overtaken by looking like an aging Kiss band member once it's all under my eyes

I have to use a tubing one (Clinique Lash Power) which is very good but in terms of making my lashes look really lovely, Roller Lash is the best. Sadly not tubing so it smudges on me.

MidnightMeltdown · 25/01/2023 13:39

I like the hourglass one, but whether it's good enough to justify the extra cost I don't know!

Niftythrifter · 25/01/2023 13:58

Personally I love my Benefit Rollerlash. I’m not a makeup snob but I would loath to give this up. I bought it on the recent deal where you got a mini and full size for the same price as a full size.

StLevanBlackcaps · 25/01/2023 14:00

@TeachesOfPeaches I love Rollerlash too. I recently bought an ELF one that's £6 which is a great dupe - the complete opposite of all the high end ones on this thread!

thisplaceisweird · 25/01/2023 14:01

Are you using a decent powder around your eyes?

thaisweetchill · 25/01/2023 14:05

Estée Lauder Double Wear is hands down the best mascara I've ever used.

Sparkletastic · 25/01/2023 14:34

MAC Stack is excellent but I have to give it a top coat of Maybelline waterproof to stop smudges on my oily skin.

Polarbearyfairy · 25/01/2023 21:06

I love the hourglass caution extreme lash, most mascaras run on me and this one stays out. Have rebought it loads. I buy the travel size one as I like to change them every 3 months and that keeps new costs down.

Zebracat · 25/01/2023 21:19

I have collection lash surge. After years of high end brands, this one is fabulous, and so cheap.

superplumb · 26/01/2023 09:01

Mac stack is great but I need to powder my lids otherwise it transfers. My favourite is the eldw navy tube and gold lid. Stays put, doesn't transfer, easy to remove and is buildable to what you want. Didn't rate IT cosmetics, lancome, or hourglass personally

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 26/01/2023 09:06

I love the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk mascara. I'm on my sixth one and it normally lasts me 2-3 months. I get it when ASOS has 20% off making it about £20 a tube.

I never used to but have started to in the last few weeks and it's definitely improved the panda eyes but they still occur...

For me, it’s all about the brush.

I only like the wands with the really short, spiky non-brushy brush.

I used to spend $£€$ on Chanel Inimitable, until I discovered a local brand aimed at teens (probably tweens, if I’m honest) that cost $7.99. It did the job absolutely 100% just as well.

It now seems like that brand has stopped making that particular mascara, which is really, really annoying, so I’m trying to find another mascara with the right sort of brush.

That one goes everywhere for me. I rarely get problems with mascara but that one is smudged by the end of the day.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 26/01/2023 09:48

I love the Hourglass Extreme Caution one, but you do need to take it off properly or it gets sticky overnight and sticks your lashes together. Plus as PP said you can get travel sized ones so it doesn’t feel so painful to buy.

This is true. It's more about the brush than the formulation. If wanted to be really frugal, you could probably just clean the brush from an old mascara and use it in a new one.

The one I've attached from Amazon is brilliant. The remover (a must) just dissolves it (and other waterproof/tubing mascaras) in an instant so you can wipe it away with a flannel or cotton wool.

I have sensitive eyes and wear lenses so have to be careful. It doesn't clump. Nice curved wand. Great stickability. Good lift and separate. Tube lasts for ages. Have bought it six times now which is frankly unheard of for me.

That one that @friskybivalves linked was reviewed on Reddit that if the world ended, the only thing left would be cockroaches and that mascara...
I've used it and dunked my head in a sink of water to test it and it doesn't shift. It laughed at my eye makeup remover too

Yeah - you deffo need the remover but that dissolves it instaneously and geniusly.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 26/01/2023 16:06

Probably not, but I've been buying them so long now. I do love the Hourglass - Caution Extreme Lash one you mentioned. Lancome is also good, as is Benefit. I don't rate MAC as it smudged, as do some cheaper ones. I suppose one benefit is that it just needs put on once and that's it, rather than layered on.

This is genius, and so obvious, I’m embarrassed if never occurred to me - thank you!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/01/2023 08:18

I've used them all and the only one I repeat buy is Maybelline Collosal. Stays put even with hay fever yet is removed with a warm wash cloth and water..
