I like merino base layers, Icebreaker are good. Merino is expensive but lasts for ever, I've got a zip neck slim jumper after my mum that's been used at least once a year since 1975 and still looks great! Sports Pursuit often have bargains- but the stuff can take a while to arrive.

Uniqlo Heattech

BHRK · 23/01/2023 10:54

North Face for proper hiking gear.
M&S for keeping toasty day to day

mynameiscalypso · 23/01/2023 10:55

I like the M&S ones.

Hoppinggreen · 23/01/2023 10:56

Uniqlo or M&S

AuntieStella · 23/01/2023 10:58

Uniqlo Heatech is very good.

I like Sainsburys too

WildCherryBlossom · 23/01/2023 10:59

I live in Uniqlo heat tech base layers from around October to March. They wash and last brilliantly,

Eldest DD has a couple of lovely ones from M&S which are super soft and so far they are washing and wearing well too.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 23/01/2023 10:59

Decathlon do pure merino at very reasonable prices.

I also love Helly Hansen

ShopoholicIn · 23/01/2023 10:59

Uniqlo heatech

daretodenim · 23/01/2023 11:00

Craft.

I don't rate merino ones over some of the more technical fibres. Also find them less soft. In all other areas of dressing I go for natural fibres, but I've never found a merino base layer I want next to my skin! Also like the washability of synthetics ones and speed of drying.

Another vote for Uniqlo Heattech

I like Brora thermals, as mine have lasted for years.I snap them up in the sales. Plus they're pretty and can be layered up as a camisole under a long sleeved top.

redskydelight · 23/01/2023 11:15

M&S have been out of stock for ages in most colours/sizes. Hope they are not discontinuing them.

hoochyhag · 23/01/2023 11:17

Uniqlo heatech have a lovely neck shape which means you can wear stuff over them easily.

AinmÁlainn · 23/01/2023 11:22

Uniqlo heattech makes me sweaty and clammy. I use their merino jumpers as base layers instead, they are great quality, easy to layer and last years. Then they go into the compost bin when they finally wear out!

afrikat · 23/01/2023 11:23

Uniqlo heat tech here

dotdotdotdash · 23/01/2023 11:25

I just got a lovely merino/ silk one from Dilling - expensive but it will get a lot of wear

prescribingmum · 23/01/2023 11:25

I recently invested in a couple of merino/cashmere combination vests from Dilling which are just amazing! So soft and luxurious

Dont have the budget for more yet so also have M&S (super warm and regular thermal) which l am happy with and some Mountain Warehouse merino tops which I also recommend

TwigTheWonderKid · 23/01/2023 11:40

Depends on your budget and what you mean by "good'. We go to Finland a lot where it is really cold and I have the Uniqlo ones as they have a variety of colours and necklines (the Finns really know how to heat their restaurants etc so inevitably I end up stripping down to my base layers and want them to look nice! ) But DH and the DSs, who care less about these things have the Decathlon ones which are much cheaper.

I hated the very expensive merino ones I had, they were just too itchy.

Rina66 · 23/01/2023 11:41

Uniqlo Heat Tech - I wear the leggings, tops and even the socks - if my feet get cold it's game over for the rest of me!

Verite1 · 23/01/2023 11:46

Uniqlo heattech

cannaethink · 23/01/2023 16:41

I’ve got some from Uniqlo, M&S, Primark and Danskin. The M&S ones are my least favourite as I find them short and the neck is too scooped. The others are pretty equal I think. They all wash and tumble dry fine. I think the Danskin ones are the warmest. I got them in Tkmaxx.

Niftythrifter · 23/01/2023 17:05

Marks and Spencer Heatgen Plus. I know you didn’t ask but I can say that the Primark thermal leggings ( most expensive pair) are worth the money and I have M and S ones too.

Cranarc · 23/01/2023 17:19

Another vote for Uniqlo.

TheStarofCountyDown · 23/01/2023 18:09
