Are expensive toothbrushes worth it?

I have a bog standard cheapie oral b, but have been given an expensive io 8 one as a present. I have the option to return it for cash, but have seen reviews indicating that they are noticeably better than cheapies, more whitening etc.
Does anyone have any experiences?

No. There’s an episode of Sliced Bread on radio 4 where they investigate toothbrushes which is worth a listen. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0017k9b

My hygienist says no

moonbows · 22/01/2023 23:24

I was going to recommend Sliced Bread too!

Do you mean manual vs electric or cheap electric vs expensive electric.

Electric much better than manual but don't think any significant difference how much you spend. Mine lights up when you press to hard and buzzes every thirty seconds to let you know when to move to next section of mouth which a nice features, but does effect how well it actually brushes

I recently bought the Oral B iO7 from Boots when they had their ‘better than half price’ offer on for £125. It is hands down the best toothbrush I have ever used. I honestly notice such a difference to how clean my teeth feel. It has some cool features & different settings that you can use, like a built in pressure sensor that lights up green when you apply the correct pressure.

Previously I was using an Oral B electric toothbrush I bought from B&M for £25 & it was fine. But there really is no comparison to the iO7.

I suppose it would depend on how much money you would get back if you were to return it? If someone paid full price (approx £400?) then you could return & buy again on a Boots deal?

Never pay full price for an electric tooth brush- if they have they have then yes return

I use the 3 for £1 Colgate ones and have never had a problem with my teeth at almost 40.

I think electric are better than manual for most people, but my dentist said the regular oral b I have (like £50 ish) is just as good as the £200 one and there's not much difference in results that he sees from people with very expensive vs normal electric ones!

I've been using the cheap Oral B ones for years until we've had a more expensive one given to us for free. I can feel the difference, the brush rotates way quicker, I feel like my teeth have been polished after brushing. I love it.

Yes, currently a cheap electric one. These ones do seem to get good reviews but I'm not used to having expensive things.
