To microblade or not to microblade? The brow is the question 🤨

So I have ill defined eyebrows. Well, the start of my brows are okay, but then they disappear half way. It's like I have 1/2 eyebrows, without the tail if you will. I'm thinking of getting microblading. But I'm worried I'll look ridiculous, and there'll be no going back. Thoughts? Is microblading a fad or a revolutionary eyebrow perfecting innovation? 🤨

I'm thinking of getting mine microbladed too OP. Am not worried about the pain but am worried incase they end up looking ridiculous and fake. Can anyone here who's had it done provide a photo just so I can see what to expect? Only needs to be of your brows themselves. I just don't trust those on people's websites/ fb etc as always think they will have been filtered or edited in some way to make them look better than they are!
I over plucked mine in the 90s and now they are very sparse! Also, could you give some idea of the cost?
Sorry if I've derailed your thread OP. X

Mine, straight after and now, posted them before so I’m happy to share
I have had the first top up but haven’t been back since so they’re a bit more blurred but I think they look fine. If I want more definition I just add some tinted brow gel as the hairs are pale rather than the skin if you see what I mean!
This is micropigmentation so a single needle

These are excellent and helpful questions! Thank you! I too over plucked in the 90s. Let's blame Avril Lavigne and All Saints... 😏

Thanks for all this useful info everyone! OK so I totally get it that pale full brows with the micro on top would look good. Or using micro for filled in gaps in an otherwise full brow.
But does micro blading look OK if there is hardly any brow hair left… but if what brow hair there is left is dark? Would the contrast be too much?

Wait, really? What are the other signs? Is this a simple blood test to check?

tiredness
weight gain
depression
being sensitive to the cold
dry skin and hair
muscle aches

If you think you may have an under active thyroid the GP will do a blood test I think x

I love mine too but for the first two weeks was totally freaked out how dark they were! I was warned but was still shocked and instead of keeping them dry and looking after them I did everything I could to try to make them paler. To no avail. However I am glad they stuck around because they’re really good and faded to a less obvious colour very quickly. They’re subtle but really nicely shaped.

I've been looking into this too but have read getting them done a couple of times can leave the skin scarred and eventually worse than you started with. I'm in my late 30s so that's a consideration, they might look good for the next couple of years but how will they look by the time I'm 60?

I have had them done a couple of times by two different artists and they just faded to nothing after a few months

Semi permanent make up artist here 🙋🏻‍♀️

I no longer do microblading as it is not suitable for many skin types and if done on the wrong skin it fades very quickly.

I also think it is traumatic to the hair follicles and done too deep it can cause permanent scarring.

I use machine method which is much gentler and I can still use nano needles to create a hair strokes effect if required

So in short I highly recommend getting semi permanent brows as they can be an absolute game changer. but I would probably avoid microblading

Mine aren't micro bladed but they are ombré machine brows (basically block shading with ombré rather than individual hairs). I love them!! They don't look like natural brows, they look like brows with makeup on which is fine with me. Micro blading is more expensive which is why I went for this option but as long as you pick a natural colour why wouldn't micro blading look natural? It's a very good technique.

Please go to a reputable salon. Please be careful.

I’ve seen so many inflamed, black, awful looking brows that look like I’ve done them with a sharpie. Someone I know paid a fortune and they’re horrific, DH who never notices anything commented on them. Look ridiculous. No idea if they fade….

Also, while I'm deciding on the "to microblade or not" dilemma, is there a brow pencil brand that anyone would recommend? I've never used a brow pencil!

I use Benefit brow mascara. It'll pick up all the tiny hairs too.

Totally agree

I see so many ladies with absolutely terrible work from previous artists and their only hope is removal. Which I currently don't offer so I refer them to a decent referral tech. This is done by saline or laser; both painful, both expensive 😞

Do your research ladies! 🙏

Could I ask what kind of research? Beyond seeing examples of their work in pictures is there anything else to look out for?

I have very sparse brows and now I’m almost 60, some coarse curly hairs too-ugh! I yes the odd eyebrow pencil but recently treated myself to a brow shape and tint with semi permanent make up. Wow! I never realised how good my brows could look-assumed it would just look the same as pencil. It cost £15 and she recommended it be done every few weeks. Very natural looking, completely non invasive and no pain-even the waxing. Have you tried this?

Look at Reviews as well, and ideally referrals from friends who've had it done

Find out how long they've been qualified and working

Make sure their pictures arent edited - Honestly the amount of work I see on Instagram that's so edited and fake

Definitely do it. Love mine, so nice to wake up with perfect brows and not have to faff with a pencil. Just make sure you go to a reputable salon. I think posters saying they don't look natural are thinking of when people used to get the block tattooing, things have moved on a lot since then and microblading looks really natural with individual brow strokes.

The best eyebrow pencil imo is Benefit precisely my brow

I love mine. Chose someone locally whose work I'd followed on social media and I joined her 18th month waiting list. I got feather brows and honestly, you cannot tell. I just look like I've got great eyebrows. As others have said, they frame your face.

Yes! A lot of my clients say they've followed my social media for ages

I have a waiting list too. It's not 18 months though wow 😯

Hi @ifyougochasingrabbits what are the options for semi permanent brows please if you don’t mind posting again? I’m interested in this rather than micro blading - for the reasons you outlined plus I’m nervous of a more permanent result if it isn’t quite right. Thank you.

Hey I never replied to this did I

So I would recommend a combination brow which is a hair stroke effect but with shading behind it to create a more natural 3d effect.
Rather than having just harsh strokes with nothing else.

It's much gentler on the skin as well.

rabbits what is the gentlest technique on the skin would you say? I’m a bit worried about scarring.
