i'm going back to work and need some smart work clothes. i want to look funky and not like a frumpy mum, so i was thinking something like this waistcoat and trousers combo.

will i look awful?

I don't know because it is hard to imagine your shape from your description, but a safe bet would be the jacket next to the waistcoat which is elegant and not at all frumpy imo!

fishie · 05/02/2008 19:11

no waistcoat! step away from the waistcoat. you will look like you have burst it.

where is your thinnest bit, i am large chested with no waist and look best in empire line.

theUrbanDryad · 05/02/2008 19:12

ok - i'm 5'6" ish, about a 16, but i have 34 G boobs and still a bit of a baby bulge, so i'm worried that a waistcoat wouldn't really suit.

don't you think a jacket and waistcoat might look too manly though?

thanks fishie

I think it might be quite hard to get a waistcoat that fits properly if you have enormous norks as the neckline might hump up a bit or the top buttons might strain.

FlameNFurter · 05/02/2008 19:14

Ooh yes, I am with fishie on not the waistcoat - I have seen you, and am very much saying no

ladytophamhatt · 05/02/2008 19:14

having met you UD, I don't think that would suit you.
Not beause of your shape, just the whole thing. tis too boring....

krabbiepatty · 05/02/2008 19:14

It looks like some kind of odd uniform, don't do it.

theUrbanDryad · 05/02/2008 19:15

what should i wear then??

nooooo to dresses - i have horrible horrible knees

OP posts:
fishie · 05/02/2008 19:17

i have been to look at your pics and there is a definite waist on that pic of you with swing. how about some straight legged trousers with fitted scoop top? have you got a properly fitted bra?

Rantmum · 05/02/2008 19:19

What about something like this

InTheseShoes · 05/02/2008 19:19

Instead of a waistcoat (and I think I am a more extreme version of you - size 18, with 36HH boobs and a baby belly and midriff) why not some sort of sleeveless top over blouses/shirts with trousers. I have one that is actually supposed to be a summer top, plain black, stretchy, I wear it over printed tops and plain and it sort of slims down my torso. Wide legged trousers, interesting shoes and jewellry.

Frocks over trousers if you don't like your legs??

theUrbanDryad · 05/02/2008 19:19

all my bras are nursing bras, and they need replacing really. what do you mean with the scoop top? i usually live in jeans and black tops...

krabbiepatty · 05/02/2008 19:19

I've just looked at your pics - you would look great in some well-cut dresses - could go past your knees if you are fussed about your knees.

ladytophamhatt · 05/02/2008 19:21

This is nice Ud

bogie · 05/02/2008 19:21

UD just had a look on your profile and your ds is so cute

Don't know anything about what to wear to look good because i look a mess most of the time but thought i would post anyway

Rantmum · 05/02/2008 19:22

or this

theUrbanDryad · 05/02/2008 19:22

do you think that would suit me LTH?

OP posts:
theUrbanDryad · 05/02/2008 19:24

thanks bogie

Rantmum - that outfit is waaaaaay too skinny for me. i can't do skinny jeans as i have tree trunk thighs.

ladytophamhatt · 05/02/2008 19:24

what? my link or rantmums?

I nearly linked rantmums trousers and whit top but thought you wanted something smarter. I think both would suit you.

MissingMyHeels · 05/02/2008 19:25

Top

I think a shirt/jumper like this with a decent pair of tailored black trousers is a fairly fail safe look for the office without looking too corporate or frumpy. Accessorise well and you'll look fab!

Or, stop worrying about your knees and get a dress. They're the best way to do "trendy" office wear.

Rantmum · 05/02/2008 19:26

I can't do skinny jeans either - just hopeful on someone elses behalf .

How smart does your outfit need to be?
