Rosacea or make up allergy?

I am really struggling with my skin, Dematica have sent me a rosacea formula based on photos but I’m not sure. It’s really red, sore, itchy and flaky yet no creams work. It’s worse on cheeks and nose/mouth. V v itchy, temp change and booze sets it off (have had to give up booze due to allergic reactions to it).

heat etc all set it off, I’ve been getting v itchy blisters under my eyes which have gone since I’ve stopped using make up.

I’m peri, on hrt, allergic to plasters, mineral foundation and shimmer (bismuth and/or mica) and from a super allergic family.

is there a risk using the rosacea stuff if it’s an allergy? And other ideas?

Sounds like it is. Can you post a photo of the redness? Rosacea is a vascular condition. Creams can help if they are for very sensitive skin. Avoid stimulants like caffeine and spicy food, temperature changes.

Here you go. Sorry for the comedy edit, I couldn’t work out another way to bits!

These are two of the photos I sent to Dermatica.

Also, my eyes often water for ages after I put make up on, think it’s foundation not eye make up though.

i has been using Chanel but it’s pretty sure I can’t tolerate it now, might be the perfume in it though

I've just put some city block SPF on (the tinted one) and now my lips are tingly and sore , face is warm and my eyes have puffed up.

Now off to Google rosacea friendly make up

Sounds like an allergy. Take antihistamines. AYU is very gentle make up,I have rosacea too and it doesn't irritate me.

YesItsMeYesItsMe · 18/01/2023 08:30

God this sounds like me, it’s so rubbish OP! All my skin allergies are recent so can’t really advise but I can sympathise! Do the reactions make you tired? They do me.
Boots online pharmacy thing sent me rosacea treatment but I don’t think it’s that - rosacea sounds more like it’s present constantly?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2023 08:35

From those photos I wouldn’t say it’s rosacea. I think an allergy is more probable.

Rosacea is more of a flush and red. Little blisters can be present, but you don’t look like you have Rosacea which is good. Sensitivity is easier to treat. Definitely don’t use foundation with any added perfume.

I wonder if its underlying rosacea that has made me v sensitive to make up? Such a shame, Ive got some really good stuff I'll have to chuck

The plus side is I went into the office make up free looking like a tomato and no one died

Yes I'm always tired @YesItsMeYesItsMe but I do have hypermobility, fibro and migraines which doesn't help!

Off to clean this off my face and try again, this time no SPF and see if face returns to normal

It's sensitive skin ,not rosacea.
Hormone changes can exacerbate this & SPF can cause eye irritation. Try a really simple routine of skincare. I use cerave cleanser & moisturiser. Blephasol eye cleanser soothes sore eyes. Azaleic acid I find reduces redness & irritation on my allergy prone skin but you're best adding it in after a while.

YesItsMeYesItsMe · 18/01/2023 12:30

Ooh @Cantonet not heard of Azaleic acid, I’ll check it out. I react to CeraVe 😄 such a bloody minefield! (sorry to jump on your thread @Matchingcollarandcuffs)

I can't use SPF on my face at all, over tried them all, I just have to wear a wide brimmed hat in the summer and stay in the shade.

No worries, I thought I was the only people who reacted to Cerave, their hyaluronic acid serum really did a number on me

Your skin sounds and looks a bit like mine and treating the rosacea with Soolantra has been life changing

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 23/01/2023 13:02

UPDATE (if anyone is interested)

I have used the dermatica rosacea treatment for 2 nights and already after the first my skin stopped being sore. It's still blotchy (and now blocked pores from all the creams/oils I'd been putting on to try and calm it down) but I can put make up on again without flaring up and it getting worse.

It's ivermectin, metronizadole and niacinimide - just in case this helps anyone else?
