Have worn the jumper only a few times....was a xmas gift....its gone all bobbly...I know DS got it in the sale for £19...full price was originally £80...if I had paid that I would have returned it....I remember when their jumpers were lovely quality and lasted for years.....!

The quality everywhere is appalling these days. Pure wool jumpers are now really thin, mix jumpers bobbling. I was bought a lovely white stuff jumper which has bobbled, it was £40 in the sale. So disappointing and even running the bobble buster over it hasn’t improved it much.
DS (young adult) has a Benetton wool blend coat and that has bobbled on the sleeve. It was over £150!

I have been watching old mid 80s Grange Hill recently. On one episode some of the girls were in a regular, unbranded clothes shop. Jeans were advertised at £15 and tops were £12. Pretty much what you’d pay today in Primark. Quality has gone down because the prices haven’t gone up.

I bought a White Stuff jumper in December. It’s now bobbled to feck. Looks wrecked. Never again.

I bought DP a jumper in the Seasalt sale. It’s hardly been on his back and the arms are all bobbled.

Conversely, have a Brora cashmere jumper from 20 years ago, and that’s absolutely fine.

Yes but Benetton prices are not cheap at full price....£80 for a jumper is crazy which looks awful after just a few uses.....I have bought second hand Gant on ebay and they are much better and a similar price new to the benetton range !

I've got a Joules one that I was given just before Christmas. £75 full price, although bought with a discount. I've washed it once and it's in such a state it's only good for wearing round the house now. It's made of that horrible spongy artificial material that is everywhere at the moment. So disappointing!
I've mentioned it on here before but the best knitwear I've found recently is a merino jumper from Finisterre. Spendy but fantastic quality and hardly a bobble to be seen, even after a lot of wear this winter!

I am wearing a Benneton lambswool jumper today that my mum gave to me over 20 years ago, and which she had for probably 20 years before that. It’s still in really great shape - no bobbling at all!

Exactly...I have a few of their T shirts....must be 25 years old....still looking good....I think their jumpers now are poor....haven't bought any cotton items from there for years....

And I have a wool jumper from Morrisons - lasted me two winters without any bobbling or quality issues. £15. Supermarkets are upping their game.

I bought a Benetton jumper in 1988 which cost £40. Wish I’d hung on to it.

I bought a merino wool Benetton jumper a few months ago that I think is amazing quality! Really warm and has washed well with no bobbling so far. On the other hand I have a beautiful wool one from Ba&sh that is already bobbling after 2 months and a Hobbs one that is like a rag after one season 🤷

Quality is just so random these days.

Bobbles are not necessarily a sign of bad quality if it's made of mostly natural fibres like lambswool or cashmere. It's a natural process where the jumper rubs against itself like at the sides or under your arms. A cashmere comb will have it looking as good as new, and the bobbling will reduce a lot over time.

Synthetic fibres are different though and not easily sorted once they've gone all fluffy.
