What do we think will be on the way out this year fashion wise ? And what new trends will find their way in?

An end to small floral, ditsy.

I would love to see an end to fake designers/saleswoman from Essex.

Home spa, DIY beauty.

Annabelnextdoor · 17/01/2023 19:17

What will replace these things though? I like that women are dressing for comfort as well as fashion. I love my trainers and jeans.

Jeans and trainers are staying, they're staples.

Annabelnextdoor · 17/01/2023 19:28

I like the baggy jeans too. What about skirts and dresses? What style do we reckon?

Is there a name for the Miley - Flowers - blonde?

Skirts and dresses will shorten and tighten due to keeping costs down.

Hem lines usually go down in a recession, so longer hem lines?
I think fashion is at a real crossroads after the pandemic. Dressing more casually, even for work. People will get more thoughtful and more ethical about their purchases.
I’ve really noticed the designers are struggling to capture a new youthful look- many are going back to older, traditional vintage looks. As Gucci put it, because older people have money to spend and want classic things that will last for years.
Added to the ethical implications of fast fashion, it’s going to be interesting to see where we go after the ‘90’s nostalgia trend has passed.
I also think ‘fashion’ is quite diluted now, which is a great freedom really.

I think we are still at the 90s/00s trends, juicy couture tracksuits are back in. Combat/utility trousers with trainers and crop tops.

i don’t think there will be a return of the skirt over trousers look from the late 90s though. Hopefully that one can stay firmly in the past

I think baggy/oversize will run and run.

Its a reaction against fitted, classic clothes, most ubiquitously skinny jeans
Many older people (not putting an age on it) prefer to look nice than fashionable (if there’s a choice) and that’s harder to achieve at the moment, deliberately really as it means the younger ones have a way to set themselves apart, which is how fashion works really
It fits in with the new casual, comfortable world
It fits in with the new wave of feminism where we aren’t there to be decorative/attractive or to be ogled at, or to ‘emphasise our best bits’ as per endless stylist advice.

I think mermaid tail skirts will start to come in. Chunky cream cardigans. Cream furry gilets. New Balance trainers. Mobile phone pouches/bags and decorative lanyards.

And thank goodness there’s a difference between the young and old! Remember the days when every teen was wearing the same Superdry outfit as their Mum?

Loose, baggy clothes are great when your young- wore my fair share in the bucket hat race days. But oh yes, harder to style when you have a menopausal figure and so I leave that alone now.

It’s absolutely what fashion is, can I wear it? Can I give a nod to it? Do I want to?

New balance trainers have been the trainers for a while, especially 327’s they took over from veja’s. I’ve seen some backless versions about, which reminded me of some glittery red or dead backless slide
on trainers I had in the late ‘90’s. It wasn’t a good idea then either 😂

But yeah, combats etc are all around. Basically my youth wardrobe but even baggier.

DuchessOfDisco · 19/01/2023 16:27

Oh yes teeny tiny handbags are back in too.

DashboardConfessional · 19/01/2023 16:48

About 5 years ago, blogger after blogger was amassing a collection of expensive oversized blazers worn casually, so I think those. Also, fringeing and grunge.
