I exfoliate twice a week. I use a serum and moisturise. I wear a primer of which I have tried many. Any suggestions?

Could be the moisturiser? I have a thick one that does cause that to happen with some foundations on top.

What kind of primer? I find the wrong type causes pilling or the foundation to 'slip' off.

I use the ordinary primer which is great

I would say either the serum or moisturiser could be the culprits. Maybe try your foundation using just one and then the other to see if it's pills. It may be the two together is the issue.

Primers I’ve used are Charlotte Tilbury, No 7, Elf, smashbox, Estée Lauder, Bobbi brown, Revolution. I’ll have a look at the Ordinary one. Thanks for responding.

moisturiser, I have a few. Liz Earle, No 7, L’Oreal, Olay. Still happens.

sorry for the blunt OP. Someone came to the door and I hadn’t realised it had posted.

Thanks. I’ll try that in the morning. I actually thought about not applying anything in the morning to see what happens.

If your serum/moisturiser or primer is oil based and you’re using a water based foundation it tends to separate. Try using a water based primer with a water based foundation. Use the serum before bed on a night time x

I read somewhere that your moisturiser and foundation should have the same base type, as in oil, water or silicone. Not sure how the primer fits in here, but maybe try that?

Is it dry skin? Mine was, upping my game skincare wise in the eve sorted it. Ie. Exfoliate, serum, moisturise, moisturising treatment

Tabitha888 · 16/01/2023 23:01

What foundation are you using, can you list the creams/serums and foundations. They sound like there all mixing and causing the split

Thesealsknowsheismagic · 17/01/2023 06:28

Are you leaving enough time between each product that you put on?

I find this happens if I am rushing and don’t let the product sink in before putting the next layer on.

ripandhishorse · 17/01/2023 10:42

Thanks everyone. I didn't use my serum this morning and so far it has made a difference. Will see what I look like this afternoon. I also mixed my foundation with a little mosturiser.

Second this, and making sure your skin is at the 'tacky - dry' stage before putting foundation on.
