Dunno why putting it in this section cos' it neither stylish or beautiful.

My scalp is annoying.

I have very dry hair. My scalp has become itchy and scabby. Sometimes (especially at night) I can't stop scratching it and it gets very sore.

I think it's almost weather related as it's been occurring for years on and off.

I tried the tar shampoo types you get from Boots etc but they actually make it worse and also my hair is awful condition.

I buy shampoos advertised to help scalp e.g Leaf and Seed.

Out of sheer madness I ordered some expensive seaweed shampoo and conditioner this week.

Am I alone or are there loads of us.
And if so how do you handle it ??

Have you seen your GP? Sound like it could possibly be scalp psoriasis which they will be able to prescribe treatment for.

EllaPaella · 14/01/2023 18:09

Nizoral shampoo is the best I've ever used. Cured my itchy scalp after years and years of trying all sorts. Avoid putting any products in your hair as well as that makes it worse.

Metabigot · 14/01/2023 18:10

I have this problem and have tried everything

Eucerin calming urea scalp treatment and shampoo are good

Also moogoo

Also bodyshop ginger shampoo

I also use a rubber scalp brush when washing my hair which helps

Reclining · 14/01/2023 18:11

Your doctor will be able to prescribe you a treatment for it, I've had it (eczema) and the treatment is incredibly soothing and satisfying

Damnautocorrect · 14/01/2023 18:11

mines the same. I frequently itch it until it bleeds.
its so expensive as you keep trying shampoos to see if that’s the one.
it rarely is.
I find ones I get on ok with and then they discontinue them.

dandruff ones seem ok, I now try and wash my hair more to try and stop it. At the moment I’m using the aldi clay one which seems to be ok. Not great. But ok.

Shampoo with selenium in.

Washaday · 14/01/2023 18:13

Avoiding all citrus 😬 took me years to work that out.

My DS had itchy flaky scalp last month. I got a Superdrug open brand scalp treatment (it was with the head and shoulders type stuff). You put it on your scalp after you've washed your hair and massage it in, then dry your hair as normal. It makes your scalp feel zingy (I tried it too as have dry scalp as well). It has definitely helped and DS says his scalp no longer itches. It was much much cheaper than the other treatments too, think it was £3 something.

I’ve suffered for a couple of years. Bloomin menopause. I’ve been through loads of shampoos, some worked for the first bottle, then I started itching as soon as I was onto the next bottle. I’ve tried everything from Nizorel to natural.

this is currently working well for me. I’m about to order my second bottle.

I find Philip Kingsley flaky itchy shampoo works for me most of the time -I certainly have noticed a difference if I forget to buy it and start using something else. But it's so horribly expensive I try and get it at Brandalley etc when they do the larger discounted sizes.

CarolineHelston · 14/01/2023 18:21

I'd want to get a GP's appointment to check whether it's psoriasis. Even then it may take a while to find the treatment that's right for you...

mizzblizz · 14/01/2023 18:24

I have this every winter and the only thing that sorts it is the ginger shampoo and conditioner from body shop. I absolutely swear by it!

WorldLeaderPretend · 14/01/2023 18:27

Try "Soaps for Little Suds" - it's a small cottage industry run by a single parent. She makes loads of shampoos and conditioners that are very gentle and nourishing. Many people swear by them. She can recommend what might help you if you post on the Facebook page first.

If it IS scalp psoriasis the most effective remedy is diet related: cutting out all the baddies basically but for
me, cutting out sugar and wheat were the most effective

Readybrek999 · 14/01/2023 18:31

I have psoriasis on my scalp.
Following a recommendation on here I now use this

KÉRASTASE SPECIFIQUE DERMO-CALM BAIN RICHE SHAMPOO 250ML DUO amzn.eu/d/43Gmxk8

It's massively reduced the itching and irritation.

Niftythrifter · 14/01/2023 18:31

Nizoral and no silicone products helped me.

YesitsJacqueline · 14/01/2023 18:32

Mine is hormone related, after I had my son and more recently during the menopause
After trying various things, a couple of drops of neat tea tree oil in baby shampoo or hypoallergenic Simple shampoo cleared it up
I use this method now and again if it flares up

RosieRainbow1986 · 14/01/2023 18:33

I've had this and it actually started because I'd used a bar shampoo- I think they're every drying - and it caused my eczema to flare up. I use the coconut head and shoulders and it cleared pretty quickly and I use it all the time now to keep it under control.

MaryDerry · 14/01/2023 18:58

Oh thank you all. Good to not be alone and good to hear those who reduces/eliminated scabby scalp from their lives.
I'm going to put a list together of potential solutions and decide what to try out 1st.

Mydogatemypurse · 14/01/2023 19:01

The ginger shampoo and conditioner from savers thats a quid each. My son has psoriosis in scalp and nad dandruff. This eradicated it. Aldis own head and shoulders too.

Luckydog7 · 14/01/2023 19:06

Can second Nizoral,

Had awful wet scabby scalp. Washing it never helped they would return immediately. I suspect seburric dermatitis. Like you tried tar shampoo and a number of others but nizoral is the only thing that helps. I use it between shampoo and conditioner for about a week and that sorts it out.

achillesshield · 14/01/2023 19:07

My daughter was recommended neutrogena T-Gel Therapeutic shampoo for her scalp psoriasis and it cleared it up. I had a very itchy, scabby scalp too where whole patches of skin were flaking off and the scalp then bleeding. This same shampoo has completely resolved this now and I won’t use anything else. It’s such a relief.
