How many leg waxes before it's worth it?

I know you never get the full 6 weeks hair free after a wax. I also know it's culuminative so it works better the more you have it.

However, how many times do you have to Do it before it becomes worth it? I've had mine done 3 times now. 4/5 weeks between with no shaving. I still get stubble after a few DAYS! So I'm not getting any benefit whatsoever.

It doesn’t work better the more you have it. Hair growth is all hormone based. Waxing repeatedly changes nothing. You’d have more permanent results with laser hair removal…although even then some hair can regrow depending on your personal hormones.

DPotter · 14/01/2023 15:59

Yep - sorry it's not going to reduce the amount of hair growth

TangledWebOfDeception · 14/01/2023 16:00

Lumea or similar (if your skin/hair is the right combo) would be the only thing that would actually work to reduce hair growth the more you use it.

It's definitely been worth it for me.

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 16:07

By culuminative, I mean you the hair falls into a cycle. I had my underarms electrolised and althoughI didn't finish the course, it did make a difference and my hair grew differently after maybe the 3rd time.

My legs are mostly blonde hair on pale skin so it's not an option for laser/lumia etc.

Agree with PPs. Waxing does not affect the speed of re growth.

What it does, in my experience, is make the re growth less stubbly, and can give a longer time without hair.

But like you OP, I only got a few days really before some regrowth, and needed waxing < 3 weeks. I did this for years, and when I couldn't get an appointment on time, just put up with hairy legs till I could!

I then ended up not being able to afford waxing so went back to shaving for underarm hair & legs (still get bikini waxes) and wonder why I wasted my time. I shave daily.

Laser would have been ideal but too expensive.

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 16:11

@EarringsandLipstick

That's what I meant but you explained it better. 😊

How many times do I need to go before I have slower hair growth between sessions? How long should I try it before I give up and accept waxing isn't going to give me smoother legs for any longer than shaving would?

That used to be the case. The same for people with dark skin tones. But they have developed different lasers for people with blonde hair and people with dark skin tones. You have to do a bit of research and make sure a clinic has the right intensity laser, but they do have laser hair removal that works on blonde, grey and white hair

I’m a beauty therapist. Waxing does slow hair growth down. It gets patchy and takes longer to come through. This happens after years of waxing.

If you have stubble after waxing that’s not right. How long is the hair when you have your legs waxed? It should be 1/4 inch.

If you haven’t shaved recently and it’s stubble after 4 days then the hair is snapping off, not being waxed. Leave it 4-6 weeks between waxing.

Happy to answer any questions.

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 16:13

@Onnabugeisha that's interesting tk know. Thank you. Out of my budget unfortunately though.

No it doesn’t. It just seems like it takes longer because the hair has to grow from root up under the skin before there is stubble instead of growing from even with the surface of the skin. It’s an illusion created by waxed hair having to grow further than shaved hair to look the same.

After years of waxing, yes some hair follicles can be permanently damaged and you get a bit of alopecia type bald spots. But that’s not slowing down growth either.

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 16:17

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Thank you.

I've had it done a few times over the years at various reputable places and I always get stubble within a few days. My hair is always l enough

This is the first time I've been consistent with it, no shaving etc.

Well, maybe. If you decide to throw into a savings account what you would spend on a wax every 6 weeks, and keep on shaving. In a few years, I bet you’d have enough to do it.

You are particularly correct.

You might have double hair follicles. Do you have dark hair?

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 16:41

@DobbyTheHouseElk. Nope. My leg hair is mostly blonde.

@Onnabugeisha. I've just done the maths and it WOULD indeed be years. 🤣 Oddly I'm happy enough to spend £10/15 a month on hair removal but the idea of saving and then spending hundreds in one go seems crazy to me. I know that's daft. 🤣

I'm fair and blonde, I can easily go 8 weeks now

That’s really unusual. Impossible to say without seeing your legs, but after 4 days you shouldn’t have stubble. You only get that when the hair has been cut and the blunt end is flat.

unless there is hair breakage.

SomethingLessIdentifiable · 14/01/2023 17:03

I get 2-3 weeks completely hair free after waxing my legs (I do them myself), by week 4 you'd see some hair if you looked closely, by week 6 they're noticeably hairy and ready to be waxed again.

I never get stubble after a few days. Even when the hair starts growing through it's not stubbly or prickly, it's really soft.

ethelredonagoodday · 14/01/2023 17:04

I've had waxing for 20 years and there's possibly a marginal reduction, but I might be imagining it! 🤣🫣

megletthesecond · 14/01/2023 17:09

I waxed for 30 years with no difference, they'd be rough within a week.
18 months of Lumea and my legs are now smooth. Have to remember to zap every 2/3 weeks to it doesn't try and grow back.

Iamnotausername · 14/01/2023 17:29

OK. So it seems I'm not going to get the results I want with waxing. I'll give it another 2 times (based on the number of sessions my underarms had) but won' hold my breath.

Will look into the lumea too.

OP It's natural to have some leg hair. Why on earth would you want to remove it? Genuine question. I grew up in the famously liberated recent past. Neither my DH - of several decades - or previous boyfriends have ever worried about it. I strongly suspect they have never even noticed. Ditto the experience for many of my female friends from the same era. Just be you. Let them take it or leave it. I really do think we need to educate men who've been led astray by social media etc as to what a real and actual woman looks like. (They'll soon learn quite a bit of this once they attend a delivery - and, for many men I know, despite the blood and mess and hair and all - one of the most wonderful experiences of their lives. )

EarringsandLipstick · 14/01/2023 19:50

It's natural to have some leg hair.

That's a bit odd of you! Of course, it's fine to have leg hair. But removing it isn't unnatural - or recent! Women have done so for generations (if they choose)

I hate having leg or underarm hair, and never do. I also have an extended bikini wax regularly. All my choice. Not unnatural!

Montague22 · 14/01/2023 19:59

I like to be waxed every 4 weeks which is before it needs doing really. If you have spikey hair they must have snapped it. The hairs are way softer with waxing. I shave my lower legs and wax my upper.
