Never been to one. It's not at anywhere formal or anything like this.

Smart jeans, nice jumper and boots. Depends on weather and location I suppose

What sort of party is it?

The "shower" bit refers to showering with gifts, and doesn't really tell you what the attached party is like.

From the timings, is it a lunch do, or a tea party, or cocktails or what? And what sort of party does the host and the honouree usually go in for?

Afternoon tea, in a cafe.

Do you know what the cafe is like? I know cafes that are quite fancy (especially if offering afternoon tea) and some are more like local costa. If I didn't know of the venue, I would wear smart jeans, blouse, nice shoes (trainers or boots), maybe a jumper or cardigan with me if it's cold.

It's not fancy.

I’ve been to a couple recently that have been afternoon tea in a cafe and I’d say lots of the attendees (including myself) wore a fairly casual patterned dress with tights and boots. That would be my safe option!

some people wore jeans and tops. No one was over the top dressed up.

Dress with tights and boots
’Jeans and a nice top’
Midi dress and flats

Basically not dressed up and super fancy but not chilling on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon either!

HiImTheProblemItsMe · 14/01/2023 17:12

I'd probably wear a casual dress, but then I wear those a lot at the weekend anyway so I don't really consider it dressing up particularly. A casual dress, tights and boots as a pp said!

Findyourneutralspace · 14/01/2023 17:23

I'd wear a dress and boots, possibly a cardi

PainterInPeril · 14/01/2023 17:35

Take an umbrella...

Back in the day, the baby got passed around. Lots of sitting involved. Soft washable sweater and trousers. Avoid jewelry.
