Forever chemicals in eyeshadow and palette recommendations

I read this Article yesterday about PFAS in makeup. I have one of the Urban Decay palettes listed and feel concerned about it. I know they are deemed safe levels in the UK but I'm still keen to find an alternative to Urban Decay!

Any recommendations? I'm wondering about Bare Minerals but have never tried their eyeshadow 🤔

Hello, I’ve had the same freak out as I’ve been using one of the products too. Plus I’m breast feeding. Has really upset me. I’ve ordered some lily lolo make up

Helenlovescats · 14/01/2023 18:22

I read the same article and am also concerned so following here for advice.
@itsnothingoriginal I've used the shimmer loose bareminerals powder that came in the 12 days of clean beauty and it is gorgeous to apply, though mega shimmery. I'd like to see what their matte shadows are like now. Am assuming they are clean and free of PFAS

Sarahsuz123 · 14/01/2023 21:25

If it helps at all, I spoke with an expert in the industry today and she said it’s unlikely much can get through your skin, so try not to worry. Easier said than done

itsnothingoriginal · 14/01/2023 21:44

Thanks - I'll definitely have a look at those brands 🙏After some further googling, it seems that Kiko makeup might be PFAS-free too. I wish there was a definitive list but I can't find one!

There are people dying of lung diseases caused by mining for mica and only now you're worried about the effect it has on the environment.

For real?

I never understand why people are so unkind to each other on the internet. I’m all for educating, and the information you have shared about mica has certainly educated me about something I wasn’t aware of. But there is no need to shame people in the process, can we just please all be kind

The hypocrisy is stunning.

We pollute the planet with plastic clothes, plastic ornaments, plastic food containers and chemicals which harm the environment at every level.

We are responsible for deforestation, holes in the ozone layer, increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, the depletion of the earth's resources and we're supposed to 'be kind' to people who could make a massive difference if only they stopped painting themselves.

Stop it.

Macroplastics, microplastics, mica, talcum, palm oil, crazily toxic dyestuffs, preservatives and antioxidants and all the accessories and cleansers needed to apply and take it off- all for the cosmetic industry.

This shit retails at prices higher than gold and you're pouring it down the drain or putting it into the bin every day.

No. You 'be kind'.

This gets me down. Everyone doesn't have to be all things, all the time. I wouldn't go on an Environmental forum and go on about how grateful I am for fast fashion because I can afford it. So please don't come onto a Style and Beauty forum going on about how everyone who isn't a 100% environmentalist is evil. OP has been very clear that her concern is about chemicals possibly going into her body and is asking for alternatives. People who want to loudly bang an environment drum instead of answering her question please go elsewhere.

Also, it shouldn't be down to us consumers to fix the issue by avoidance, the big cooperations need to put an end to it. They are the ones responsible for all of this, not us. They have the power to stop it all yet they carry on.

Style and beauty is not the place for spitefulness venom and vitriol.

May i suggest AIBU might be a better fit for you @Gingernaut

Back to business, Lily Lolo?

Oh, more than likely.

My phone is nine years old and I'll replace it only when it stops working.

Consumer boycotts are what the manufacturers understand.

Why should they change when we are buying their products and there are no laws to prevent them using these chemicals?

Why should they change? To save the planet.

I buy all my make up from Content Beauty, which only stocks non-toxic products.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your support on this post. I’ve been really upset about some of the post

Sarahsuz123 · 16/01/2023 13:47

Just ignore the stupid venting. Some people think the are VERY VERY important and must be heard. You're doing okay and I'm pleased you've found yourself a new brand. 😊
