What jeans to buy if skinny jeans look amazing

I’m trying to buy jeans at the moment and it’s a nightmare. As a five foot one, curvy (but not overweight) woman in her 40’s with short legs nothing else looks as good on me. Most other styles simply are unflattering or look wrong somehow.

I started of off trying straight jeans but they were baggy and my butt looked weird. Then I tried slim fit but they sort of look like slim jeans gone wrong. It’s a bit depressing because after recently losing (I’m now healthy BMI) I’ve been able to buy lots of clothes that look amazing and have been getting loads of compliments on my new look and wardrobe. Jeans have defeated me however.

On a related topic, I’m heading to the UK next week from Australia (hence the shopping spree) and after trying on my dark blue skinnies I realised they are super flattering on me. Much more flattering than any other jeans I’ve tried on recently. Would they look out of place in London with boots and a blazer for gong out in the evening? After losing weight they’re still skinny but not skintight. It’s so hard packing for 6 degree weather when it’s over 30 degrees 😁

@bluetongue do you mind me asking what style of skinny jeans you went for please?

I'm 5ft 3 and skinnies are definitely the best shape for me.. I'm thinking a high waisted pair from M & S but not sure which ones to go for.

Glad your search went so well so quickly!

Of course!

They are the ‘Ivy’ super soft skinny high rise. They come in 3 or 4 different colours.

I wear skinny jeans, I tried on a pair of bootcut I found in my drawer the other week and thought what an earth was I ever thinking.

As for white trainers and bare ankles, I did just that this morning. I always have bare ankles if I'm in jeans and trainers. If its really cold I'll put boots on but I prefer driving in trainers as I can move my ankles better.

It's actually a lovely sunny day so it felt like a good day for white trainers.

Great. Who knew I’d be advising people on jeans purchases. Which so colour did you get? Mine are the lightest colour (light to mid blue).

Off to Paris on the train now so will be interesting to see what everyone is wearing. I feel like unlike in London where I could pass for a local I’ll be an obviously unkempt out of towner.😁

Off topic, but London was fab (if freezing) and I also enjoyed my impromptu day trip to York on the train. Say what you will about the UK but the tube and intercity trains are pretty brilliant. The only time I used a cab / Uber was a black cab from my hotel in Paddington to St Pancras station this afternoon because I was exhausted, travelling solo, and didn’t feel like hauling my luggage to the tube station.
