Eczema round the eyes - products help!

Tomblibooz · 07/01/2023 20:59

I've had eczema for a while, but recently it's been flaring up round my eyes. I've got the pharmacist creams but wondering if anyone else has wonder creams/cures to make it look less.. obvious? They are so red, puffy and the lines underneath that I didn't know I had are so pronounced!

Other than cold compress/pharmacist creams/antihistamine, can anyone recommend anything?

Protopic?
Colloidal silver spray?

OrangePomander · 07/01/2023 21:46

Well I use a small amount of 1% hydrocortisone, because it’s the only thing that clears it. But I know that’s not recommended.

Me too. But you’re not meant to. I use the tiniest smearing, but it does work.

BungleandGeorge · 07/01/2023 21:48

i had this from allergy to eye make up remover. Could it be caused by a product you’re using?

FamilyAreEverything · 07/01/2023 21:49

Hydrocortisone. I know you shouldn’t use it on your face, but it’s the only thing that ever clears mine up. And la Roche Posay Dermallergo Soothing Eye Cream - amazing stuff.

theveg · 07/01/2023 21:49

Same with me with the very low strength hydrocortisone. The thinnest of smears and it clears up instantly.

Tomblibooz · 07/01/2023 21:59

Thank you! I'll gently try some hydrocortisone.

Re products - I've not used anything new to cause a flare up and have since stopped using anything on my face other than water and ointments from the pharmacy for the last week, and it's as bad as ever. But I'm back to the office on Monday and really don't want to be going in like this!

Protopic was a lifesaver for me but you have to try really hard to get it and it’s itchy as hell for a day or so but after that, miraculous

Shitfather · 08/01/2023 01:42

Agree - Protopic is miraculous stuff. Cleared up my face eczema within a couple of days. It feels like your skin is burning and itchy when you use it, but rude through it.

RichardsGear · 08/01/2023 02:03

After wasting God knows how much on OTC stuff and trying all sorts, a lovely GP prescribed Protopic for DD's severe eye eczema and it practically cleared it overnight. Miracle stuff.

CeriB82 · 08/01/2023 07:59

I also use HC. Whatever you do dont tell the chemist its for your fave. 6 wont sell it to you .

i always say its for someone else.

It's what the GP told me to use and it works.

I use a probiotic serum which seems to help a lot. thejojobacompany.co.uk/products/30ml-probiotic-jojoba-milk

It's very pricey though and when I am a bit skint I do a daily mask with unsweetened greek live-culture yogurt instead. It is obviously much much cheaper to do that, and has very similar results, but I really like the jojoba serum so I buy it when I can.

Housewife2010 · 08/01/2023 09:31

Re hydrocortisone, you can use the weakest around your eyes for a maximum of 7 days. I used to have terrible eczema on my face. Protopic is great. I find it works very quickly and doesn't itch. I wouldn't use a cold compress on your eyes. I tried that many years ago when I had an eczema outbreak near my eyes and it left them puffy and looking appalling. Try not to touch your eyes- you may be allergic to something you're in contact with. I had blood and scratch tests by a dermatologist many years ago which helped.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 08/01/2023 10:02

Hydrocortisone to clear it up and hydrosil eye gel afterwards. I eventually managed to identify the product that was causing it and I've had no other issues

Columbina · 08/01/2023 11:34

I agree with protopic.

When I had chronic eczema around my eye, I was using low dose hydrocortisone and it would clear it up, but it would just come back the minute I stopped.

And you really shouldn't used hydrocortisone long term, especially around your eyes.

So GP prescribed me a protopic. It was amazing, cleared it up, then I just needed to use it a couple of times a week to stop it coming back, then after a couple of months it has gone for good and not comed back.

Ratonastick · 08/01/2023 13:03

I get eczema on my eyelids and swear by cetraben cream. I put a lot on overnight then a very thin layer and reapply during the day. It is usually clear in a couple of days

MistyRock · 08/01/2023 13:11

Bepanthen nappy rash cream is also great. Best used at night as its quite greasy. I love it.
