Trainers for muddy walks

I need some walking trainers. I don't go on serious hikes so I don't need hiking boots. I just need super comfortable shoes that I can wear to walk for a couple of hours through muddy parks, but I want them to look nice enough that I could also wear to walk around town/meet friends for a coffee, etc. I keep changing the route that friends want to walk because I'm avoiding the muddy paths when I think I just need to change my shoes instead!

I'm wearing Brook ghost goretex runners at the moment, they keep my feet dry in these winter months when I'm walking the dogs out rurally, where we've plenty mud and puddles. I think any of the brands like asics, hoka, new balance should do goretex runners, you might find a style suitable to wear casually too.

I had some walking shoes from Cotton Traders for this and they were perfect (and cheap). Fake leather uppers with a Goretex-type lining (but not Goretex). They lasted ages, had a good grip and were completely waterproof.

I’ve got some asics trail shoes that are made with gore tex. Decent support, good to look at and can withstand a bit of mud.

Go to sports direct , they have loads of this sort of trail trainers in boxes stacked up

I bought Merrel walking shoes. Bloody great. Comfortable and waterproof.

I'd go to Decathlon or Mountain Warehouse and get cheap hiking boots or shoes.
Something like these.

I have these but not sure if they are stylish or beautiful! Very comfortable though

KirstenBlest · 08/01/2023 13:40

They're great, @HalfasleepChrisintheMorning - not too fancy so that you'd not want to risk getting them muddy but comfortable and look ok.

I struggle between trail shoes and regular runners, depends on the surface. If you are walking on grass/earth for most of it, trail shoes give you grip. If you are walking on tarmac or concrete paths that get muddy, I would go for waterproof regular runners because pavements will wreck the grip on trail shoes far more quickly.

A dark colour will look good for longer and I second the recommendation above for Brooks, I have their cascadia trail shoes and adrenaline regular runners. I couldn't get on with the ghost runners but it depends on your foot shape. Running trainers for walking are like walking on clouds, hope you find something you like!

Saucony trail trainers are great. https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/saucony-womens-peregrine-11-shoes-L2314725.html?colour=3599&utmsource=google&utmmmedium=gdn&utmcampaign=CWO-UK-PERF-ONG-PLA-NB-GOOGLE-PMAX2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9pa9n5W44AIV2IBQBh250gh1EAQYBCABEgLyTPD_BwE

Loads of grip in mud but still look good. I run as well as walk in mine and have washed them a few times after getting submerged in mud. Still in great condition.

Thanks for the replies. I went to sports direct and got some cheap waterproof walking shoes for muddy parks. I'm now looking to get some black trainers as well for when I want something that looks a bit nicer and it's less wet and muddy!
